Pretty bad news
The Vanityville Bugle | June 29, 2011 | 2ndDivisionVet

Posted on 06/29/2011 7:50:49 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Went to my doctor for the first time in awhile and got some bad news. My A1C blood sugar was almost 12 and my blood pressure averaged about 190/110. They wanted to admit me right then and there, but instead gave me a shopping bag full of medications. Since my wife had her stroke I haven't really been taking care of myself and now it's come to a head. If I don't do a complete 180 I'll be dead before the year is out. I have committed to mall walking (exercising) seven days a week for 30 minutes a day and cutting my carbs and sugars drastically. Please pray for me or think of me as I try to save my own life. Thanks!

Praying for your full recovery and strength in this, your hour of need. May God bless and keep you and yours.

Read about low-carb diets here, food lists and carb content, recipes, food sources, hints and tips, what to eat in restaurants, how to stay low-carb when you're tempted, etc., etc.

Once you get used to walking and exercising you will that drop like a rock. I went from a 12 to a 7 in three months by spending the time on the treadmill.

I still have a handful of pills that I have to take, but it is important.

The blood pressure is not something I have had to deal with. But you HAVE to get that down. The danger of stroke and kidney failure is too high.

I found that I am a lot nicer to be around when I am exercising. The sugar does nasty things to your mood.

You have clearly done tough things in the past. This is not easy. But its simple. Put your mind to it, and you will be fine.

Good luck and if you need some motivation, drop me a note. I can give you a digital boot in the rear if you need it.

Diet and exercise...lots of veggies...LOSE the weight. Do it, and you’ll feel MUCH better. It takes discipline...it really does.

I’ll be praying for you 2ndDivisionVet and for your wife. I appreciate your posts here on FR.

I was stationed at Keesler AFB. I was there for Hurricane Camille. Yes, they had bad hurricanes before globull warming and it was hot there back in those days as well.

Here’s my two cents on what you’re going through and how to make some changes that work, and more important, work for you and your lifestyle:

1) find some buddies here on FR who need/want to lose weight. Start a weekly thread to keep tabs on one another and lend each other support and advice.

2) walk, walk, walk. And when you get your weight down a bit, buy a treadmill for your home. A decent one is not more than $400 and many have treads that lift up and lock when not in use, saving space.

3) keep track of every bit of food you eat. Whether you’re counting calories and fat, or better, just counting carbs, track it online. Spark people.com and fit day.com are great places to keep tabs on food numbers, and they’re free.

4) don’t just keep tabs online. Use a calendar to mark off each day you exercise and stay within your calorie/carbs goals. By doing this, you can see progress and have some personal accountability for your actions.

5) set goals. If you lose x amount of weight within a specific time frame (for your weight, 12 to 15 lbs is not unreasonable within 30 days) reward yourself with a non- food treat. Go see a movie. Buy a new book, etc. Whatever makes you happy.

6) you can do this! We are all cheering for you!

A lot of Freepers go here for the latest health information...click on the 'Diabetes' link for loads of great articles on the subject; including advice on weight loss. Search on 'blood pressure', as well. Make sure the 'url' on any article includes 'natural news'...some articles come from 'google' advertisers looking to sell product...

2 more suggestions for you:

1)plan your meals every morning for the entire day and have them ready to go. If you are doing low-carb, have a roast in the crockpot, or a chicken thawed and ready for baking. Keep canned tuna and chicken on hand for “meal emergencies”. Eggs are cheap and a great way to get proper nutrients, too.

2) don’t try to walk 30 minutes at a time right out of the gate. If you can only do 15, do 15 for a week twice a day. Then up your minutes to 20, then 30 as you gain endurance.

3) did I mention you can do this and that we are all cheering for you? ;)

Hang in there sir...do what you know needs to be done. I've been down the path you're beginning to travel.

As you know, it ain't gonna be easy. But few things worth doing (short of eating hot dogs and drinking beer) really are.

BTW: I'm still here! We'll raise a virtual glass of beer together next year about this time.

Keep me posted on your "little successes"!

But most of all watch all those pills they gave you, they will kill you. Research every one of them online so you will know what symptoms to watch out for. My hubby was almost done in by his diabetic medicine.

Bump that like you've never bumped before!

"I have committed to mall walking (exercising) seven days a week for 30 minutes a day and cutting my carbs and sugars drastically."
Bad idea. Don't do that. You'll just have to start buying new clothes several sizes smaller. In less than six weeks, none of your old clothes will fit you any more.

Obvious sarcasm here.

God Bless you in this effort.

Hang in there, FRiend. My husband has gone from over 220 to 192 because I stopped bringing junk food into the house. He’s a couple of years older than you and he’s thrilled with how he feels and looks.

If you get the chips, ice cream and cookies out of the house altogether it’s much easier to eat food that will get you healthy.

Wishing you the best,

~D

PRAYERS PRAYERS AND MORE PRAYERS FOR YOU!!!

Dear Lord,

In your healing mercy I pray you touch the health of this great patriot. He has served his wife, family and country with loyalty and love. He is also a much beloved Freeper who always adds great thoughts to the table of ideas here.

Please care for him now Lord, as he so generously cared for others in his life. I pray that you restore his health and heal his body from the stress it has undergone. I also pray for your love and care for his wife at this time. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
