It is unconscionable that extremist groups circulate letters which accuse me of horrific things, saying that I am a traitor, that POWs in Hanoi were tied up and in chains and marched passed me while I spat at them and called them ‘baby killers. These letters also say that when the POWs were brought into the room for a meeting I had with them, we shook hands and they passed me tiny slips of paper on which they had written their social security numbers. Supposedly, this was so that I could bring back proof to the U.S. military that they were alive. The story goes on to say that I handed these slips of paper over to the North Vietnamese guards and, as a result, at least one of the men was tortured to death.
That these stories could be given credence shows how little people know of the realities in North Vietnam prisons at the time. The U.S. government and the POW families didn’t need me to tell them who the prisoners were. They had all their names. Moreover, according to even the most hardcore senior officers, torture stopped late in 1969, two and a half years before I got there. And, most importantly, I would never say such things to our servicemen, whom I respect, whether or not I agree with the mission they have been sent to perform, which is not of their choosing.
But these lies have circulated for almost forty years, continually reopening the wound of the Vietnam War and causing pain to families of American servicemen. The lies distort the truth of why I went to North Vietnam and they perpetuate the myth that being anti-war means being anti-soldier.

Has she gotten Alzheimer's? We were in the midst of a war, people were being tortured ALL THE TIME and people weren't normally visiting N. Vietnam, especially those considered “famous” (only because of her father). What a lying, murderous scumbag! Like it or not she has blood on her hands, and in her old age she needs to ask for forgiveness and really apologize. And that still won't be enough.

She is from a famous acting family, she had already won an Oscar, her father had won an Oscar, her brother’s movie had been nominated for Oscars, she was born into the media and publicity, she was not some naive victim that did not understand photo ops and publicity, and star power, etc.
The Oscar winning actress traveled to the country we were at war with, she was a media expert, and dedicated.
The act actually helped advance her career in Hollywood.

Jane Fonda was a useful tool for the VietCong Communists. She frolicked with them while our soldiers were being slaughtered. She was the American “Tokyo Rose” for this war. She was and IS a TRAITOR. She is a despicable piece of humanity.
I wouldn’t go that far, I would rather she be saved, and see the light.
By the way, that was a rumor many years ago.
She also fails to mention her press release when she returned to the States telling everyone that we were "bombing the Red River Dikes" to conduct a "genocidal war" against the Vietnamese people. She knew that was a lie but she did what the NVA wanted. (We were actually bombing the POL loading facilities on top of the dikes - a heavily defended and legitimate target).
Jane is working hard to spin her image and make more money in her last years but she is and always has been a liar. She worked actively to support the enemy, not "peace".
How would we have dealt with someone who went to Germany or Japan during WW II and met with the enemy governments, made pro-enemy broadcasts, and returned to denounce our forces? She should have been tried for treason, period.
I tried to write these responses on her website and to respond to her article in the Huffington Post but surprisingly, they weren't accepted. Big surprise. The Left isn't interested in the truth.
I hope to live long enough to relieve myself on her grave.
