Wearing Yourself Out
August 10, 2011

My friend Jeff was asked by his daughter to officiate at her wedding. This would be a great joy as they traveled to an exotic and romantic location for the ceremony. But there was one major problem—because the wedding party was very small, Jeff would have to perform three separate roles that could be in conflict. He would be the officiating minister, the father of the bride, and the wedding photographer!

Have you ever felt as if you were wearing too many hats? Jethro thought his son-in-law Moses was (Ex. 18). Leading the Israelites, arbitrating personal disputes, and handing down legal judgments for a great multitude was taking its toll. Finally, Jethro approached Moses, telling him: “This thing is too much for you; you are not able to perform it by yourself” (v.18). He wisely counseled Moses to delegate smaller disputes to other advisors and take the more challenging cases himself (v.22).

Whether you’re a mother with small children, an overwhelmed business executive, or an overworked church volunteer, you too can take a lesson from Moses. Why not prayerfully discern if there may be tasks you can delegate to others or even discontinue—so that you don’t wear yourself out.

Father, we need help with our priorities.
Teach us to understand what’s most important and
needs to be accomplished, and to let go of what we can
so that we are at our best for You. Amen.

If we don’t come apart and rest awhile,
we may just plain come apart! —Havner

Politically Correct Statements

Your bedroom isn’t cluttered, it’s just “passage restrictive.”

Kids don’t get grounded anymore. They merely hit “social speed bumps.”

You’re not late, you just have a “rescheduled arrival time.”

You’re not having a bad hair day, you’re suffering from “rebellious follicle syndrome.”

No one’s tall anymore. He’s “vertically enhanced.”

You’re not shy. You’re “conversationally selective.”

You don’t talk a lot. You’re just “abundantly verbal.”

It’s not called gossip anymore. It’s “the speedy transmission of near-factual information.”

AND FOR STUDENTS...

The food at the school cafeteria isn’t awful. It’s “digestively challenged.”

No one fails a class anymore, he’s merely “passing impaired.”

You don’t have detention, you’re just one of the “exit delayed.”

These days, a student isn’t lazy. He’s “energetically declined.”

Your locker isn’t overflowing with junk, it’s just “closure prohibitive.”

Your homework isn’t missing, its just having an “out-of-notebook experience.”

You’re not sleeping in class, you’re “rationing consciousness.”

You don’t have smelly gym socks, you have “odor-retentive athletic footwear.”

You weren’t passing notes in class. You were “participating in the discreet exchange of penned meditations.”

You’re not being sent to the principal’s office. You’re “going on a mandatory field trip to the administrative building.”

As I've never had the pleasure of PANNOKOKEN I think today should be the day! :)

And, if jaycee doesn't mind, I'll be seated with her for the company.

Thank you kindly!

The Dutch pancake is HUGE. It comes to the table all puffed up and then it slowly deflates. topped and eaten hot their a delight.

You will find her at the table by the window just to the left of the fireplace. I’ll get a fresh pot of coffee for the table and join you.

Good Morning Amy's Place!

I just want to say thank you for your prayers on behalf of my dear sister Marilyn.

I trust God completely to restore my sister to health or in His Divine providence take her to Glory.

Here is a brief account of the last two days.

Monday I was called in by my sister Barbara ( there are 6 of us girls), as it appeared Marilyn was on her last. We prayed and sat with her. I felt impelled to call her Bible study leader who is a Nigerian Bible student studying right now for his doctorate in the states. He came and brought another Nigerian pastor friend.

Both pastors prayed for sister, and we left her in God's Hands....

Pastor Emmanuel kept saying that " God is the God of impossible circumstances".

Monday night we said our goodbyes. Sister had a night nurse sitting with her.

At 3am my dear sister Marilyn started " humming" and then spoke! She told the night nurse " to Pray".

When her son came into the room yesterday morning with a cup of coffee, her first words, upon the smell of coffee were " I want some coffee". She has started swallowing again, talked all day to us yesterday, although some was incoherent.

When my one sister Barbara, who is going through chemo treatments for cancer, said " Marilyn, this is almost like a miracle, Marilyn said infatically " NO"...it isn't almost like a miracle...it IS a miracle."

I cant and do not want to second guess God, but for yesterday, I spent a wonderful day with my sister. Thought you all would like to know! Phillipians 4:19

I am so glad you had a good day with your sister, Marilyn. We love for them to do what they can as long as they’re here. She is in God’s hands now and we have no say, even though we never give up on prayer!

I have a little story to share. My DIL, Gwen, called this morning to tell me they had moved her cousin Misti, to Hospice. About 7 or 8 years ago she had breast cancer. She had a double mastectomy and did well. Then just recently, they found cancer in her liver and she’s been in the hospital for about 8 days. They put in a feeding tube and had her on a breathing machine. On Monday, they took out the breathing machine and yesterday wanted to put it back and she managed to tell them no, she didn’t want that anymore. Of course, she worsened and is now in Hospice.

She is only 40 and has 2 young sons, age 11 and 13. Her family is having a hard time dealing with this. These are things that are hard for me to understand...to be so young and has to leave her family. I have been sad all morning since Gwen called me. I am praying for this little sweet family.

It's heartbreaking what a lot of families are going through and trying to make any sense of it is impossible. My prayers are with the entire family.
