“The young being leftists is new ...”

I would beg to differ. The young of the 60s/70s were generally lefties; there was a brief respite wrought by Reagan, then back to form with Clinton. Unfortunately, the lefties of the 60’s/70’s are now called the Administration.

Boomers never withdrew from Vietnam, the nation’s leadership did, and Vietnam was a war fought mostly by volunteers, not draftees like WWII and other major wars were up to that time, relatively few of the 9.4 million boomers veterans are draftees.

If you are whining and complaining this much now, what will you do if we get into a war where we lose tens of thousands in combat, what will you do at a peacetime tempo that kills thousands in training every year?

When you were in the military was it losing thousands dead every year just in training?

Then why were they voting Republican? The only time the Democrats the youth vote in their time, was after Watergate, when Carter won 51%

Nixon won 52% of the 18 to 29 year old vote in 1972.

In 1968 the Democrats won 47% of the (21) to 29 year old vote, in 1972, they won 46% of the 18 to 29 age group, in 1976, after Watergate, and with the weak, moderate (and under suspicion) Ford, against what appeared to be a social conservative Democrat with a strong military back ground, the Democrats picked up 51% of the 18 to 29 year old vote.

In 1980 Democrats got 44% of that age group, 1984-40%, 1988-47%.

It wasn't until 1992 that the under 30 age group (without boomers) became a Democrat voter group, George W. did get 46% and 45% though.

The 66% that Obama won, is unprecedented and doesn't bode well for the future.

“When you were in the military was it losing thousands dead every year just in training?”

Military won’t take me I’m disabled so I have no choice in the matter.

As for me, that’s no excuse. You do the job you’re assigned, you do what it takes to win. Did the folks in WWII just up and quit?

No. And we won’t. We’ve already won one war against Iraq, and we’ll win these next two. We’ve never had a day of peace since we’ve come of age. Not one. I was 19 when the tower was hit. We’ve fought for 11 years since, with no end in sight. When my father was 20, the war was over and they had 20 years of peace until desert storm.

That’s the Boomer legacy. Even the oldest boomer was out of Vietnam by the age that I am today.

You want to talk about shared sacrifice, let’s talk about shared sacrifice. But it’s the young men and women that are out there putting their lives on the line to make sure that another 3k civilians do not die again in the tower.

Where were the Boomers when they were in charge in 2001? Why did they not protect the country? Why were you all asleep at the switch?

You had 8 years of Clinton, and when they were done, the tower was hit.

“Then why were they voting Republican? The only time the Democrats the youth vote in their time, was after Watergate, when Carter won 51%”

So you voted for Carter, and you voted for Bubba Clinton. Great legacy. Then you had the worst disaster when you destroyed Nixon.

The only redeeming thing that the Boomers did was vote in Reagan in ‘84, after it became clear that he was going to win without you.

You saw the numbers. 52 percent in favour of Obama. That’s a drop of 14 percent. And yet, we’re the stupid generation? He’s still got 44 percent from the boomers, a drop of only 4 percent from the 48 he got in the election.

So it’s pretty clear that the young folks are getting it and are fixing the situation a hell of a lot quicker than the boomers.

If the boomers can just stay out of it for once, we can win this darn thing in 2012. Hopefully, they won’t all swing again and backstab us all.

It’s simple math.

Which is greater?

.66 of .10 or .5 of 0.33?

This is nutty, you think that the serving military youth “just up and quit” and made the decision to sign a treaty with north Vietnam and end the war? Do you know that the military is under control of the civilian government? Do you know how the war ended?

You never served but you want to attack nine and a half million veterans and current military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan?

You seem to be the whiniest baby around, and very anti-military unless they are a particular age.

You were the one who called this generation, the ‘stupid’ genereation, and I’m the one who’s ‘anti-military’ except for those of a certain age?

Hey at least we appreciate our soldiers rather then crapping on them.

The only reason Vietnam was lost is because you guys lost heart on the homefront. You can blame the leadership all you want, but the leadership knew they had it won after Tet.

The people (read boomers), who saw the war on their teevees, thought otherwise and demanded the end of the war. And so they got it and by ‘75 abandoned the South Vietnamese to their fate.

For their sacrifice, we have the monument of Ho Chi Minh City. Well done.

Who cares about meaningless polling in between elections, your age group is permanently going to be left wing.

The only time the Democrats won the youth vote in the boomer time was after Watergate, when Carter won 51%

It wasn’t until 1992 that the under 30 age group (without boomers) became a dependable, permanent, Democrat voter group, The 66% that Obama won, is unprecedented and shows that your generation is going to destroy America after the elders are gone.

Your age group will not vote Republican in 2012, but the age groups over age 45 will.

If I could find your stupid ass...I would put an ass whooping on you that you would’t soon forget in memory of some great American’s that lost their lives so that you could make ignorant statement. BTW you wouldn’t make a trickle of sweat on their butts. You are a despicable human piece of dreck....

By voting Republican? By voting for Nixon?

By volunteering by the millions?

By being the age group that most supported the Vietnam War?

“Who cares about meaningless polling in between elections”

Who cares about the actual ballots? More Boomers cast ballots with the little x for Obama, then the entire group of the under 30s.

Fact.

From this fact we conclude that the greatest overall contribution to Obama’s election came from the baby boomers.

Also a fact.

Did the young people contribute? Yes, but their contribution was less than the contribution of the boomers.

“your age group is permanently going to be left wing.”

According to this poll, the difference between my age group and yours is 8 percent, and from how you stated about 4 percent from how they were back in 1972.

Seems to me that in another year, this generation will be just as, if not more conservative then yours. Which is to be expected.

“Your age group will not vote Republican in 2012, but the age groups over age 45 will.”

Given the results of the poll, and the rate of change, in another two years, the under 30s will be voting against Obama more then the boomer generation. As we would expect.

You guys had your chance to save the republic. To hold the line on the debt. To stop the spending, and guess what! You CAVED! You shafted us young’uns over to kick the can for another day.

Enough is enough. We need leadership that’s willing to make the difficult decisions to hold the line on spending. If the boomers in power can’t do it then it’s up to us to do it for them.

In ‘68? What about all the love ins? The Summer of Love? Kent State? The list goes on and on.

You folks made a massive push against the Vietnam war in ‘68 and destroyed LBJ. Nixon got elected not to win the war, but to end it.

You are delusional, no wonder your generation appears so stupid, it earns the title of "The Obama Generation", and in 2012, the great majority of your peers will line up for Obama again.

Your generation will never be anything but liberal.
