SAN DIEGO (AP) -- San Diego police say a boy throwing rocks at vehicles was struck in the abdomen by a crossbow bolt fired by a passenger in small sport utility vehicle.
Officer Dino Delimitros says the boy and a friend were throwing rocks in the Linda Vista neighborhood Monday afternoon when a passenger in a black Toyota RAV4 pulled out a crossbow and fired.

Moral of story, don’t bring a rock to a crossbow fight.
PLEASE! This “kid” was 16years old, a young man in fact. Paddling the rear end (if you could even do so) wouldn’t do a particle of good.
And when your car is hit by a rock you can talk.

The ‘boy’ sounds like he’s a teenager... 16 years old? AP put a pity-party headline on the story. For a second the lie works - and we imagine a 7 year old being hit with a crossbow. Then ahhh, it’s AP and the illusion - the lie - is obvious. An out of control teenager was throwing rocks at cars - maybe endangering lives - and someone fought back...
If I were on the jury that heard the case against the alleged crossbow shooter I would vote to acquit.
Wasn't aware that combustion plays a part in shooting a crossbow. RPG crossbow? (And where can I get one?)
I say it to this boy and I would say the same to my own son if it happened to him. "Welcome to the real world and thank God you are alive." Then I would promptly encourage him to find out whom were in the other cars that he hit and make amends and if he could not find them, I would sit down with him and research other groups or people that had been victimized by anonymous crime and have him pay amends/do service to the same amount of people as cars he hit--such as lawn mowing, anything that works for the victims.
Hopefully it will sink in real fast that crime does not pay in the end.

Small caliber for pest control, larger calibers and very heavy bullets for the larger perps, uh pests. .45 caliber and a 500+ grain cast bullet at just a few 100 fps, (feet per second) is akin to getting hit with a freight train.

Depends on the size of the bolt, the size of the crossbow, and the tension configuration. I’ve seen tiny handheld crossbows that couldn’t pierce a chicken thigh, but of course could still kill you if the bolt was poisoned.
Same thing happened in Douglas County Georgia back in the early 90’s.
They convicted the little twerp and when everyone thought he was still in prison he gets arrested again for pointing a gun at someone!
BS!!! Hell, even when it came to snowballs they were limited to the body of trucks, not the cab and NEVER at a car or bus.
Maybe a target bolt not the one with razor blades.
You series-ly need some counseling. OK.. let me ask you this. If your child, 16 years old and let’s say, he’s a bit of a mindless teenager looking for some excitement, threw rocks at a car and someone hit him with a crossbow or maybe even shot him with a gun ... that you would think that was just fine? What if they killed your child? Would you cheer on the shooter. If you say yes... you should make a double appointment for some series-ous counseling.
