they broke into the UGA/USC game with this...Kill had brain cancer and had a lot of medical issues with this at SIU...
About twenty years ago, I was in a supermarket when a man fell to the floor and started having a seizure. Two employees held him while a third pushed a celery stick down his throat-I guess to keep him from swallowing his tongue.
Watched the game live. With 20 seconds to go, the game was stopped for at least 15 minutes. Players on both teams were huddled in prayer. Camera coverage broke away ...
i wish the guy well and he’s done well everywhere he’s coached but with his history Minnesota knew it was a risk...
Photo, (which I won’t post), and more details here.

Check out the link in post #6.
yikes...not to make light of the situation but losing to a team that’s won a single game the past two years would give most coaches a seizure...
His players knelt in prayer as paramedics worked on the coach.
Both teams huddled in prayer.
actually its UNM that’s won a single game in two years, not NMSU- regardless prayers for Kill....
Wonderful.
Coach Kill maybe okay, but the scene on the field was frightening.
The local news media is reporting that Kill collapsed on the field late in the game in 2005 when he was coaching N. Illinois. They said it was that event that led to him being diagnosed with kidney cancer (not brain cancer as was posted above). His cancer is supposedly in remission.
It is impossible to swallow your tounge. A bite stick can keep an airway open.
don’t put things in their mouth, just turn them on their side.
btw, my sister had a seizure last night for the first time in years. she’s okay though
it was kidney cancer but Kill coached at Southern Illinois, when he had the seizure during the game in ‘05- he coached SIU through the ‘07 season before moving onto NIU...
They used to tell you back then to stick something in the mouth to keep them from “swallowing their tongue” (which is impossible). Now, the recommendation is just to protect their head from trauma; no need to hold them down.
The brain is a common site for metastasis with kidney cancer.
I gotta admit, until recent years, I always believed that thing about swallowing your tongue. Thanks for the input on what to do. I’m sorry to hear about your sister, GeronL, I’m glad she’s ok and I hope she doesn’t haven’t another seizure.
