What people don't understand is that the Palin campaign was already started and set up for her years ago. If she wants to run, it is already set up to start in cruise control
she has her unhired unpaid attack dogs in every corner of the internet. She has her positive fans who promote her energy and economic policies. She has people willing to help her in their own free time in all 50 states.
There exists is an organization with no office and no one web site right now. The Palin campaign is open for business on every country road and city street in these United States if she wants it.
Unconventional, yes. But it's not magic. It is not rocket science. In a land of 300 million people, there are still those of us around who want to save the future of our country. We are patriots.
She doesn't need to hire a Lee Atwater or a Karl Rove type or drive across the country in a fancy bus... Everything is right there for the taking..
While I don’t think the polls are a fraud
I think the context is bogus. It is that simple. A lot of it is some dust leftover from the 2008 election. It is not 2008 anymore and things are changing.
Republicans will vote for just about anyone against Obama.
The point is Palin would NOT get the nomination.
Palin lost the goodwill of a large number of her supporters, because of her nonserious teasing. And if she thinks she can just snap her finger and they will stampede to her side, she is mistaken.
The rest are in the arena, as she herself pointed out, while she is cashing the checks from FoxNews.
This is not 1979, this is over 30 years later.
The rest are falling like flies. Pawlently, Bachmann, Perry ?
This is not the NCAA tournament. You don’t have to attend and win a dozen cable debates to get the nomination. You just have to win primaries.
There are deadlines fast approaching if she wants to be on the ballot in all 50 state primaries with or without the help of an official campaign staff.
Her decision to quit the governorship in the middle of her term hasn't helped either.
I don't want her to run--not for president, that is. But of course I will vote for her if she is the nominee.
“You just have to win primaries.”
I certainly agree with you on that.
She can win if the turnout of conservatives is >90%. At the rate things are deteriorating, it might happen. Any self-described conservative who doesn’t show up at the polls is just a defeatist who will allow the thugs to run wild. I’ll gladly support a candidate who can ignite voter turnout in a positive way. But time is running out.
“The point is Palin would NOT get the nomination.”
Send me the lotto numbers too Nostradamus, I need the money.
Your version of ‘clarity’ seems pretty clouded. Try separating fact from opinion and get back to us.
OK, I’ll bite. Why does a candidate have to announce earlier in an era when the message can be disseminated easier, people pay attention much later, and your fund raising organization has proven itself capable of bringing in enough individual contributions to more than make up for the big players who buy their candidates early?
Lots of snarky posts, not much actual content and a 2011 signup...who were you the first trip through FreeRepublic?
I’m smelling a retread...
I assumed Perry was competent. The debates are demonstrating to me that he may not be. I’m still a Perry supporter, but my support is soft.
Palin has the opposite problem. Too many people assume she is incompetent. She needs the debates to demonstrate she isn’t incompetent. One or two good debate performances aren’t enough. She needs to run the table on the other candidates, not because of the Republican nomination but as a build up for the general election. I think there’ll be enough debates whenever she can reasonably be assumed to declare, but still, the more the better, IMHO.
If I were a candidate, I would not be showing up at all these cable TV debates. I would do 1 or 2 debates right before Iowa. If you clear your throat or look in the camera the wrong way your camapaign could be finished.
While I believe the Perry and Bachmann implosions were self inflicted. But people leave no margin for error at all by going to these things.
I think overexposure is another part of it. You risk becoming nothing but a talking head on a tv screen.
My goodness, if you are the front runner and there are 9 other people standing up there on the stage just waiting to gang up on you every week. geez
Go mark your territory somewhere else.
Yea, then you have to cream Obama in several debates running, and out of the pack of Republicans running only Romney, Newt, and Cain are capable of doing that. And Palin if she runs has already proved herself when she went up against Biden. Those are the four names that can do it, like them or not.
Perry? Not a chance, sorry.
The bottom line is that Palin refuses to fall into the traps set for her and it drives the media/lib/rino types insane.
It shouldn’t. She told everyone exactly what she was going to do and she’s doing it. But just like their refusal to take her at her word at “running an unconventional campaign” they also to listen to anyone telling them where to look for her version of ‘campaign staff’ organization’ etc.
I and many others here have directed the PDS brigade to the works of Sun Tzu hundreds of times. Anyone reading it will see her pas and future actions as clear as a bell...but instead they mock and ridicule.
Fine by me.
There is zero benefit to Palin playing “fair” as one freeper recently whined. Politics ain’t beanbag. Reaching the goal is what matters and she’s doing it without all the lies and false promises of the ‘traditional’ politician.
Let then whine. I could not care any less than I do about people too stubborn to think for themselves and follow the herd. And If I’m wrong and she does not run/win? So what? I’m just some guy on the internet to begin with.
What do you want to bet that when she does announce, she will shoot straight to the top of the polls, just as Perry did? Impossible to do if 3/4 of Republicans really don’t want her to run.
And if I dont? You gonna just troll harder?
Honestly, IMHO, she's probably a bit . . . libertarian AND populist for most "social conservatives" (but don't tell that to the "lamestream media" who wouldn't know a libertarian from an evangelical Christian from a neo-Conservative from a RINO if their lives depended on it.
We're ALL "right-wing wackos" to them.)
If she runs, she'll run against the whole Potomac River/Wall Street cesspool, and by doing that she'll get a whole lot of just-plain-folks people who wouldn't ordinarily give a Republican even a first glance.
To be honest, I think if she would go into some of the inner city, black-majority neighborhoods of some of the big cities and some of the Hispanic-majority neighborhoods in California and the rest of the south, engage in her usual face-to-face retail politics, speak "truth to power" the way she has always done, you would be ASTOUNDED at how positive a reaction she'd get--but that's just me and my opinion. I think Palin could target those key Democrat demographics with the message "they're taking you for granted. Aren't you tired of being taken for granted--I don't want to take you for granted. I want you to be FREE!" and make that message really connect.
(This may be why I'm not a professional political campaign consultant. Of course, I'm not sure Palin's in the market for professional political campaign consultants. Frankly, I'd offer the same advice to ANY Republican Presidential candidate who I thought could actually pull it off.)
If she doesn't get in, I'll likely vote Cain if I get a chance.
