My letter to ESPN Re: The Firing of Hank Williams, Jr
Self | 3 October, 2011 | Self

Posted on 10/03/2011 5:30:38 PM PDT by Howie66

I am writing to express my displeasure with the decision of ESPN to pull Hank Williams, Jr. from your Monday Night Football opening.

Mister Williams did nothing more than express his opinion on a television show. The last time that I checked, we still have a United States Constitution (I served to defend it in the Marine Corps) and we still have the freedom to express our displeasure with our government and our elected officials.

There never seemed to be an issue with that when President Bush was in office.

Since you choose to ignore Mr. Williams right to free speech, I will no longer watch your broadcasts in my home. Many of my friends share my views on this.

May your ratings follow Mr. Obama's poll numbers.

Sincerely,

X.X.Xxxxx XXXXXXXX, Texas USA

This isn't a free speech issue. ESPN is private company making a business decision, and it's perfectly within their right to do so. There's no first amendment violation. But of course it's with our right to complain about it and, if we deem their decision offensive enough, to boycott ESPN.

I hadn’t heard that the light in the loafer fairies at ESPN had fired Hank. I’m sorry to hear it. He said nothing wrong this morning. Just another kneejerk reaction from the TV commie fairies.

I stopped watching MNF when they moved to ESPN. They put the freaking scoreboard right in the middle of the screen. Annoying as hell. So I don’t watch anymore.

Good for you to write the letter!

This brings to memory the Ditzy Chicks fiasco from the Bush years and I will say the same thing I said then regarding boycotts, cancellations and empty seats at their shows:

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from repercussions.

Do I think he should be fired - hell no. 75% of NFL fans probably agree with him. But I bet 90% of the people at ESPN agree with the decision to fire him.

Exactly. And for us the real measure of their action should be whether they apply the same standard to left wingers.

The PC police strikes again.

I was watching Fox and Friends when this went down.

He didn't liken President Obama to Hitler.

He compared a golf summit between Obama and Boehner and said it would be “like a summit between Hitler and Netanyahu.”

Besides, Bush was compared to Hitler every other day and no one seemed to care.

Good ole Liberal double standards in play if you ask me and the jerks running ESPN are about as far left as it gets!

ESPN's Dana Jacobsen:

Dropping the F-bomb three times, she reportedly slandered Notre Dame, the icon painted behind their goal posts dubbed "Touchdown Jesus" and finally Jesus himself.

That was back when dissent was the highest form of patriotism. Now, its divisive, uncivil, and possibly illegal. Besides, in Soviet America, only Republicans can be compared to Hitler.

"We still have the freedom to express our displeasure with our government"

But we never had the right to work where we choose. That's up to the employer. Just as on this site. You don't have the right to post anything you like. That's up to the site's owners. That's what freedom is.

ESPN also has a right to free speech.

“Exactly. And for us the real measure of their action should be whether they apply the same standard to left wingers. “

still, it’s their action to make and I should hope we’re not for some kind of ‘fairness doctrine’ because that will always work against us.

The difference is that this ugly cow “repented” (to ESPN, not the Good Lord), and was absolved by the gods of cable sports.

I have a feeling there ain’t gonna be an apology in this case.
