Path to the nomination: Did Cain’s end yesterday?
Washington Post ^ | 08:45 AM ET, 11/01/2011 | By Jennifer Rubin

Posted on 11/01/2011 7:09:51 AM PDT by DBCJR

Herman Cain was in the center of a firestorm, largely of his own making, yesterday. He knew before he entered the presidential race that he had a sexual harassment settlement in his past. He knew, ever since Politico started questioning his campaign, that a story was afoot. He knew he had to get the story out quickly and truthfully. And yet, by the end of the day, the business executive peddling his leadership skills and know-how looked somewhat like the hapless PBS executive who eventually got ousted for screwing up the Juan Williams firing.

...

Iowans don’t need to believe he is innocent of sexual harassment to vote for him. But they do need to trust him. Virtually everything that happened yesterday with regard to this issue served to damage his trustworthiness. Beyond the point of no return? We’ll find out.

This should serve as a warning to all the vanity candidates (i.e., those without experience who run essentially as celebrities) in this and future cycles: A presidential nomination process is brutal and serious stuff. If they think there is no downside to competing, they are wrong. They may, at the end, come out diminished people, less respected and liked than when they went in.

Some people call this unfair and harmful to our political process. I disagree. If unserious and ill-prepared candidates try to take the voters for a ride, don’t bother to understand the issues or even their own weaknesses, they pretty much get what they deserve. And if voters bury their heads in the sand and vote for them anyway, they deserve what follows as well.

Seems to me that the early development of a pattern can be detected with the sexual harassment allegations vs Cain.

A similar thing happened to Clarence Thomas. Old, unproven allegations resurfaced with a vengeance.

Juan Williams, a black Democrat political analyst, recalls the Thomas witch hunt saying how vicious they were. He worked at an agency and was contacted during that search for dirt.

Liberal attacks against all conservative black men is, in fact, racist. Such action unveils the old fashion prejudice of days gone by that black men cannot control their sexual urges. Such a notion was at the core of some of the most heinous lynchings of black men for white rapes.

We see this same despicable dual standard and scapegoating in white Bill Clinton getting a pass, "It's only sex."

Liberals are the racists, not only seeing black men as animals incapable of controlling their passions, but viewing blacks as incapable of competing on a level playing field as evidenced by Affirmative Action.

Holding blacks down and keeping them dependent, "on the plantation", is necessary for Liberals to maintain their coalition of power. Herman Cain, as a successful, self-made businessman, represents a major threat to that Liberal coalition.

One can question whether or not Cain ever really had a path to the nomination. But his poor handling of the charges didn’t help his case at all.

The Washington Post thinks it's still calling the shots.

Isn't that cute?

I can recall two quotes from Larry Elder’s “The Ten Things You Can’t Say In America:

“Blacks are more racist than Whites”

“White Condescension is Worse than Black Racism”

This is all to trumped up but THIS from the WaPo article make me laugh
“If unserious and ill-prepared candidates try to take the voters for a ride, don’t bother to understand the issues or even their own weaknesses, they pretty much get what they deserve. And if voters bury their heads in the sand and vote for them anyway, they deserve what follows as well.”

THAT describes the vile POS 0dumbo to a T

I think there is some truth in this piece. I think Cain's handling of the matter was possibly less than it could have been. But I also think that is a tack taken by those who want to hype the story without supporting the actual allegation.

I also think Cain will not lose a single existing supporter over this. Will anyone remember this in 63 days? I am not so sure. Memories are short.

This may give large donors pause, but I am not sure Cain has many of those anyway.

They really fear Herman Cain.

Too bad Mr. Cain caused himself minor damage yesterday. Early on Fox, he had no idea about settlements, or the specific complaint. Later on Fox, he had details. Just not well played.

Absolutely excellent that the MSM is asking itself if its own tactics worked yesterday. Too bad Mr. Cain didn’t snort coke while exposing himself to an intern in the Oval Office then driving her and dumping her body into a drainage canal. Then I guess he’d be “cool”.

If the GOP doesn’t figure out a way to harness this incident into a teachable moment, they are absolute morons.

My concern is that this didn’t come from Democrats.

I watched Herman on Greta last night, he was 100% open and honest. This article is used toilet paper.

also watched the politico “reporter” on CNN. He was being so sneaky and evasive, even Anderson Cooper was reacting to the refusal to answer questions.

For example, Politico will not state the details of the complaints, probably because they were as ridiculous as the one Cain revealed.

Those jungle bunnies just can’t keep there junk in their pants, can they Jennifer Rubin? Thank heavens the civilized world has you and the fair-skinned boys at Politico to keep these animals in their place.

Yeah, his nomination is over. I think I’ll send him another hundred bucks anyway... just because you’re starting to piss me off.

Nope, they probably just guaranteed him the nomination.

You are really an awful person to be believing that only attractive woman deserve to be conservatives.

Re-read the post. IT can help you think straight.

Cain is a good guy. But, he is so underprepared for the campaign. His bumbling all day yesterday is the bigger issue. And, the author is making that point.

We’ll remember in 63 days, because it will be repeated over and over in every story about Cain by the leftist media and Rove regardless of the validity . Just like Rove is still bringing up minor flaps about Cain from 5 months ago while ignoring Romney’s disastrous turn against the Ohio Republican union bill and his flip/flop/flip on global warming.

The DC beltway media is so predictable, but unfortunately also can be quite effective.

This will become a full-time drama in which, at best, Cain may be thought to be an incompetent crisis manager and, at worst, a creep and a liar
