This is not the 1940’s. And I never saw a teacher treat a child with disrespect all the years I was in school. I did see one teacher slap a child who told her ‘F’ You’, and thought they deserved it since all she said to him was Please sit down.
Maybe I’m just glad I never went to school in the Chicago ghettos. They tend to treat everybody there with mob rule.
You obviously are much younger than I and, right, this is not the '40s. This school was James G. Blaine School (he was a Republican candidate for president in the late 19th century) located in a middle class neighborhood on the near North side in Chicago (near Wrigley Field). It was not the ghetto. The Chicago of the 1940s was much different ethnically than it is today. And corporal punishment in public schools did exist at that time. Old timers will remember.
