A short silent film of London taken from the back of a vehicle showing some of the best recorded ordinary-street scenes ever. What are now termed Classic Cars abound in this as yet undated film. It has the early 1950's aura to it. It wouldn't have been during the 40's and it was definitely not the 1960's, safe to say approximately early 1950's. Great colour film for the period.

I suppose from the period, the original movie was not in color, so the end result has a video-game feeling to it. It’s really nice, though. Thank you for sharing!

Really! There are cars in the city, for instance.

No litter. No graffiti. Nicely dressed people crossing the street at the crosswalk. Not a lot of traffic. It looks like Paradise!

The trick to dating this film is to identify the latest model of car you can find. That is up to the car buffs.

Isn't it that way everywhere there is only/mostly White people and western civilization? Or...is it racist to state the obvious?

There is a late model looking green woodie at 5:20. Is that a Ford?

In a few short years those same streets will be filled with people walking around in their underwear with safety pins stuck through their noses.

Cream colored 54 Ford convert was the only one I saw that I would take the witness stand on.

Looks more like a Morris Minor Clubman. No I’m not of that age I just recognise the car from my youth, the favoured model for district nurses as I recall, big lolling spaniel and tartan rug in the back came as standard.

Well, that gets us away from the early fifties.

1955? 56?

I really want to know...

Help me!

I’m going with 1954, the most modern cars I saw were a Hillman Husky, curved windshield Morris Minors and curved window Ford 100Es. there was also a Ford Consul with curved glass, but I think they got that in 52 or 53

Bicycles left unattended by the kerb, ladies in skirts and gentlemen in hats, careful driving, step on step off buses with conductors, front gardens to the houses instead of car parks, no security grilles on the ground floor windows, milk deliverymen, no CCTV cameras, all of the people look like their ancestors came from those parts.

We threw a lot away in the 1960’s, I hope it was all worth it.
