Rmember that movie that Fred Astaire did in the 1970s called The Dobermans? They fitted those dogs with false teeth to look especially fearsome.
Thanks for posting, Altariel! I love it! We had a Dobe when I was a kid and he loved having his nails done! A fabulous and wonderful breed of dog! Intelligent, patient, loves children, protective and goofy. What more could you want?!
It certainly is.
“Those Amazing Dobermans!” [with James Franciscus starring as eye candy] was part of the Doberman trilogy.
First was “The Doberman Gang” followed by “The Daring Dobermans”.
“Those Amazing Dobermans!” was a much watered down finale to lessen the ‘scariness’ of the dogs in the first two.

On late night TV, I saw the first one when I was about 13, asked God for one to protect me from my pedo uncle and seriously, a “stray” showed up in my yard less than a week later.
[and it’s not like we had packs of them wandering around lost back then, mind you]
Sweet, gentle Caesar was my first hairy Angel, the much more ‘serious’ Tito was given to me about a year later and many more followed.
Life without at least one isn’t really living.
They didn’t have false teeth in the movies, they had cotton wads stuffed up under their lips to show off their perfectly natural awesome pearly whites...:)

If you wanna see unbelievably goofy “false teeth” on a Dobermann, rent “Zoltan: Hound Of Dracula” sometime.
Unintentionally hilarious movie.
Along with the goofy ‘vampire fangs’, they dumped corn starch all over the poor dog to make him look “undead”.
The great Jose Ferrer also stars, even though he pretty much acts like he’s just killing time until the check clears.

I’ve often considered getting another Poodle but I doubt I’d be lucky enough to find one like her twice in my life.

I agree. The only Dobies I have ever been around snapped at some point and were only good as watch dogs, completely away from people. Don’t know of any other breeds that do that.
Gosh, Salamander. I remember when our Oden was about six months old to a year... the stuff he accidentally broke was funny. He just didn’t know he was going to be a big dog. Not a mean bone in his 100 lb. body either EXCEPT when it came to bees. He HATED them with a passion. I don’t know how many times we had to pull him out of an azalea bush after he plunged into it to get the buzzing sound. I just love the breed!

I don’t think he realizes his size or strength and I’ve lost count of the accidentally crushed stuff he owes me...:)

My Wonder Dobe Tito shared your dog’s hatred of bees..well, wasps, specifically.
He’d stand on the back porch and snap-bite them right in two, in midair and never get stung.
Never did figure out why he had such a grudge against them.
Odin’s registered name is actually pronounced Odhinn but it’s too much to keep typing....LOL

I’ve had dozens of them and every single one of them snapped at some point.

They attacked not only strangers but all of them eventually turned on me.
Several of them ate babies and/or old ladies.
Two of them killed me.
To make it even worse, every one of them got rabies and I’d had to lock them in the corn crib and shoot them like Ol’ Yeller.
I have a 9mm and a cattle prod beside my sofa for that inevitable moment when Odin suddenly goes for my jugular.
They all need killin’.
Be that as it may, according to breed authority “Deb”, it’s just a matter of time before that adorable little cherub is dog food.

Cotton balls? I read a review that said they had capped those dogs’ teeth for the movie. I wondered how they did that and wondered if the dogs minded. Was the Fred Astaire movie part of the Doberman trilogy, or was it made separaaately.

The dogs learn to put up with it.
It’s not hurting them but I reckon the cotton tastes icky after a while.
Before the cotton trick, they used rubber bands to keep the dogs’ lips up.
That was cruel and the ASPCA outlawed it.
Yes, the Astaire movie was the final movie of the trilogy.
The entire trilogy is very hard to find unless you can live with a low-grade bootleg.
I think they sell 1 of the 3 movies on Amazon.

My Mom registered ours as “Oden Vonn Doberman”. It was hokey even then! His issue over any sort of buzzing bee happened after the poor dog was attacked by a swarm of ground yellow jackets. His snout was covered in stings. After that day... he had an intense hatred for them. I would love to get another Dobie. With 3 dogs right now... that may have to wait but one day!
