Yes it can...

Enjoy the chili...over a hot dog would be tasty! ;)

The sun is shining but it's quite chilly here as well.

Grace-Filled Waiting

December 27, 2011

Roger lost his job due to the company being downsized. For months he searched, applied for jobs, prayed, asked others to pray, and trusted God. Roger and his wife Jerrie’s emotions fluctuated though. They saw God provide for them in unexpected ways and experienced His grace, but sometimes they worried that a job would never come. For 15 long months, they waited.

Then Roger had three interviews with a company, and a week later the employment agency called and said, “Have you heard the saying, ‘Sometimes clouds have a silver lining’? Well, you’ve got the job!” Jerrie told me later, “We wouldn’t trade this hard experience for anything. It brought us closer together and closer to the Lord.” Friends who had prayed rejoiced and gave thanks to God.

Paul wanted the Corinthian church to see the grace of God at work in his life, which could cause “thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God” (2 Cor. 4:15). His trials were so severe that he was “hard pressed on every side,” “perplexed,” “persecuted,” and “struck down” (vv.8-9). Yet he encouraged the people not to lose heart in troubles (v.16) but to trust God. During our difficulties, we can be drawn nearer to God and others, as Roger and Jerrie experienced, and praise will go to the Lord for His grace.

Thank the Lord when trouble comes,
His love and grace expressing;
Grateful praise releases faith,
Turns trials into blessing. —Egner

There’s no better time to praise God than right now.

Scarlet Dreams

There is a promise in the sight,
Of redbirds moving ‘round in flight.
Their brilliant colors clearly state,
This frozen land is not our fate.

There will be thawing coming soon,
A glacial creeping toward June.
When this bright plumage may seem bland,
As flowers fill a fertile land.

But for the moment all is stark,
A brilliant day turns crisply dark,
And only wind sings mournful dirge,
Of having lost its vernal urge.

Beneath a coverlet of white,
The same bold striving senses night,
And slumbers onward snug in bed,
While scarlet dreams flash overhead.

GOOD MILITARY MONDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

The Soldier’s Code

1) I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.

2) I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender my men while they still have the means to resist.

3) If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.

4) If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my comrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me, and will back them up in every way.

5) When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am bound to give only name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and its allies, or harmful to their cause.

6) I will never forget that I am an American fighting man, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

President Dwight D. Eisenhower, August, 1955.

I must have been tired this morning.
I slept until 8:30 and read for half hour before deciding that I really should get up.
It has been really cold for the past 10 days.

When Jr left yesterday, he was worrying about burst water pipes.
No Problem ... Whewwww.
About 12 years ago, he returned home to a flooded house.

I hope that everyone is having a relaxing Tuesday.

Good morning afternoon, Rus. Thank you for another wonderful lesson from ODB.

Hope you had a beautiful Christmas. Did your son get home?

We had a small gathering for Christmas dinner but it was really relaxing. I didn't spend all day in the kitchen. :)

Wishing you a beautiful week.

Nothing like trial, adversity, sickness, pain, to get our attention and see the truth and reality of the immense blessedness of family, peace, health, and things being well with us and our family.

We take things for granted and mumble and mutter over the trifles of the day. Realize the glorious gift of life, living in America, having a job, having good health and family to love, knowing our purpose is to obey God and living to please Him.

It’s “a wonderful life” as Charles Bailey declared !!!
Do not give up hope, ever.

HAPPY TUESDAY TO AMY’S PLACE!

There is a story behind this picture.

Always known as a photographer who would take almost any chance if it meant getting the picture, Gene Smith’s good luck throughout the Pacific deserted him on May 23, 1945. While on the east coast of Okinawa photographing an essay titled "A Day in the Life of a Front Line Soldier," he was seriously wounded by a Japanese shell fragment. The missile hit him in the head cutting both cheeks, injuring his tongue and knocking out several teeth. Characteristically, he was taking pictures at the time and the fragment passed through his left hand before entering his cheek just below the eye and near the nose. His comment in the hospital later: "I forgot to duck but I got a wonderful shot of those who did... my policy of standing up when the others are down finally caught up with me."

Ernie Pyle, another great war correspondent, who was on Okinawa with Smith and was not so lucky, wrote of him, "Gene Smith is an idealist, trying to do great good with his work but it will either break him or kill him."

Smith’s war wounds cost him two painful years of hospitalization and plastic surgery. During these years he took no pictures and whether he would ever be able to return to photography was doubtful. Then one day, during his period of convalescence, Smith took a walk with his two children and even though it was still intensely painful for him to operate a camera, came back with one of the most famous photographs of all time: "A Walk to Paradise Garden." This memorable image was to serve as the final picture in the famous "Family of Man" Exhibition.

Please accept my condolences, Rus and Juls.

This is such a sad time to lose a loved one. One of my cousins died Wednesday. She was only 55. I had not seen her for 3 or 4 years.

In addition to that, MrJust’s brother fell and broke his hip. They transported him to Palo Alto for surgery. Seems the Orthopedic surgeon at the Fresno VA was on vacation. They did get him back to Fresno Friday evening. We plan to visit again this afternoon.

So happy to hear that your son was able to spend Christmas with you.

We had a nice Christmas too, Conor.

I haven’t known what day it is for the past week. LOL This has been a very stressful time. I think I try to do more than I’m capable of doing. :)
