NY Woman Uses Dating Site to Get Over $1200 In Free Meals

A New York woman is being scrutinized and praised after people learned that she used a dating website to obtain $1,200 a month in free meals.

According to Business Insider, 23-year-old Jessica Sporty was deep in debt. Sporty had difficulties living on her $45,000 annual salary after spending nearly $1,500 a month in rent, paying her credit card bill, and buying food.

So she hatched up a plan and signed up with the popular online dating site Match.com so she could quickly go on five dates a week. Sporty even maintained a spreadsheet with detailed information on each of her dates, limiting each guy to a maximum of five.

Dates took Sporty to high-end New York restaurants, and one of her dates even bought her a $200 bottle of champagne.

“Before I barely had enough money to pay for food,” said Sporty. “After using Match.com I found I wasn’t going into debt anymore.”

-snip-

As of today, Sporty is no longer on the dating website as she is currently in a relationship and most likely freeloading off her new beau.

“It was exhausting,” she said. “I needed my sleep and I was done playing the game.”

Isn’t this really, uncomfortably close to prostitution?

If I invite you out to dinner to discuss this topic and offer to pay the tab, does that make you a whore?

I knew women that would go out for a dinner date knowing the date was someone they would not want to be with. Welcome to the dating scene.

I’m glad I’m married.

Dittos. After 16 years of marriage I'm not sure I could have a conversation about anything but politics, religion or the kids. Not the best options for dating.

Your reading skills must be a whole lot better than mine because I didn't see that in the article, but I did see she found it "exhausting." I don't think it was the walks from the car to the restaurant that did that.
What car? She can't afford a car. Parking in Manhattan costs $500/month.
DAting 5 different guys a week could be mentally exhasting. Her conscience could be bothering her. Besides, a if she's hooking, she's undercharging.

45,000 a year pre-tax gets you about 33K after taxes. She’s paying 18,000 a year in rent. That leaves 15,000 for everything else. Not so easy in New York.

Free Republic works too. I met my gal here and have now been married 5 years.

Seems to me you owe JimRob some money. (Assuming it's a happy marriage).

Good morning! I understand you have a cold, rainy thing going on there - heard it on the Jerry Doyle show yesterday afternoon.

27 and sunny here, much collapsing of mammals in sunbeams.

No, she’s in NYC. Taxes are a killer and $1500 for rent is well beyond her means with her salary. In NYC, the standard is to require 40X the monthly rent in gross salary—and that would be a third more than she’s making.

Is it fraud? Surely she would have been open to one of the gents as a partner (and perhaps that’s how she found her current guy?) if he had won her over.

Anyone shallow enough to use people like that is someone I would not consider to be really responsible n other areas of her life, like finances, for example.

Works out about equivalent to $20/hr, a decent part-time job paying on par with her full-time one. ...and with those numbers run that way, plus the publicity, she’s at risk of investigation for running an unlicensed escort service.

But at least that's tax free. Presumably the guys are not filing a W-2 or a 1099 with the value of goods and services exchanged.

Yes, we had rain and wind and cold...a fot (or more) of snow on Mt. Charleston, and I got soaked to the skin on my way to Walmart and the PO.

Right now, I’m trying to sort out my aches. Fergitit.
