Is this man truly a genius?

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked, and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.

The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan".. All grades will be averaged, and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).

After the first test, the grades were averaged, and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset, and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less, and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too, so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.

As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame, and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings, and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else.

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail, because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler than that. (Please pass this on.)

Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.

These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

This is the biggest urban legend going in chain emails and blogosphere.

No such event happened because no one can cite the school, professor or the corresponding outrage that would have hit the University newspapers or local papers.

This would have been NEWS somewhere and no one can ever cite where.

It’s obviously made up folk wisdom, which, frankly, lacks wisdom. No one anywhere has ever implemented socialism as understood by this doofus “professor”, who should have instead presented real life examples of “socialism”, a corrupt system in every place that has claimed it.

Of course, it will have to be equitably shared among all 10,000 people who participated. Equality and all that.

I got this one:

Finally...a Real Man’s Chain Letter!

This chain letter was started in hopes of bringing relief to other tired and discouraged men. Unlike most chain letters, this one doesn’t cost anything! Just send a copy of this letter to five of your male friends who are equally tired and discontented. Then bundle up your wife and/or girlfriend and send her to the man whose name appears at the top of the following list, and add your name to the bottom of the list. When your turn comes, you will receive 15,625 women.

At the writing of this letter, a friend of mine had already received 184 women, of whom four were worth keeping. This chain also brings good luck. One man’s pit bull died, and the next day he received a Playboy playmate. An unmarried Jewish man living with his widowed mother was able to choose between a Hooter’s waitress and a Hollywood super model. You can be lucky too, but DO NOT BREAK THE CHAIN! One man broke the chain and got his old wife back. Let’s keep it going, men! Just add your name to the list below.

Bill Clinton 780 3rd Ave New York, NY 10017
B. Clinton 780 3rd Ave. New York, NY 10017
William Jefferson Clinton 780 3rd Ave. New York, NY 10017
W. Jeff Clinton 780 3rd Ave. New York, NY 10017
W. Clinton 780 3rd Ave. New York, NY 10017
Wilhelm Clinton 780 3rd Ave. New York, NY 10017
Mr. Hillary Clinton 780 3rd Ave. New York, NY 10017

Well, Mr Pennant, if that is your real name, do you like your drinks watered down? Because what you’re getting is a watered down thread. Is there any useful information herein? I suspect that on the earlier threads, on perhaps the first one, which would have been relatively easy to find, there was something interesting, such as, say, the history of this urban legend, and so on. And here? Only fully justified bitching about it being a repeat lame thread. As I said, watered down.

As a classroom demonstration of a theory it was simply brilliant. But it was simplistic. Note that the premise of the test is that all the students have equal opportunities to study for the exams, the variable factor was who will grab this opportunity. In real life, although we say all are equal it is really not true. I am not just referring to attributes but to circumstances as well, primarily financial and social status.

Did I or the email message claim that it really happened?

Your best action item would be to petition Jim to add a note to the FR home page informing everyone that it is not required to read every thread, especially the “lame” ones.

Then you would be relieved of such an onerous duty as you have taken on.

I know it’s old and probably never happened. A professor would be crucified for actually showing kids how communism works in a way they easily understand.

However, he should have added the part about the rich kid bribing the professor to steal all the meager points actually “produced” by the “true believers” in the class. “More equal than others” is a big part of communism and this 100% equal grade split makes communism look too good.

Why don’t you set a permanent watch so you can post everything already posted for the 2nd, third, forth and even fifth time. It would be easy to do. I didn’t know it until now, but I figure they must give medals for starting threads, lame ones or otherwise, repeated or original. You’re very good at not searching if the story had been posted previously. Congratulations, keep up the good work.

That line follows this line:

To their great surprise, ALL FAILED, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail, because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed.

IOW, that is what he wanted to show them. It's not saying that socialism is that simple.

I agree about emails in general, BTW. This one made a decent point, IMO.
