I feel very bad for them. My wife and I had a few miscarries and it is horrible. I hope these guys can get pregnant again very soon. It does not replace the loss but it does allow you to look forward to having another child. These parents are in hell right now. Sometime God has a bigger plan but you just never know what it is at the time. God please let them get pregnant again soon!!!! They deserve to continue being great parents.

I congratulate them on having a full quiver.

However, it will not be abnormal for her not to be able to have any more children.

Thank you so much. I can’t tell you how much your post touched me. We had 4 miscarrages between the third and four child which is why there are six years between the two. It was tough and we thought that we would not have anymore but God graced us with our daughter 3 years ago.

Oh my, this is sad news. The Duggars are great parents who raise respectful, ethical children. The world can use all of those kinds of people it can get.

That said, with the last pregnancy nearly killing her and now the outcome of this one, I think her body is telling her something.

When young people are hoping to have children, it is vital for them to know that 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and it is nobody’s fault.

Often it is much more common with a woman’s first pregnancy, and has been described as a “test run by her body, to make sure that she is ready to carry to full term.”

This needs to be told to them again and again right when they are starting out, because, while it won’t help with the emotional pain, hopefully it won’t be so traumatic that it destroys their marriage and leaves them devastated.

A young couple with a first pregnancy are especially vulnerable, so it is vital that they are prepared as much as they can be, if this terrible thing happens. Likewise their families and friends need to know of this possibility as well, so they won’t make things much worse with social blunders.

We’ve had this happen to us. If it HAS to happen, at least the Duggars (unlike us, so far) can take great comfort in already having healthy young ones.

It's not just a female problem. My grandfather's grandfather (in direct male line) had one son. He was married numerous times ~ so many it makes his contemporary Joseph Smith look celibate.

He continued to marry with different women of widely different backgrounds ~ even different Indian tribes, different parts of Europe, Asia, wherever.

That was it ~ one son! That son had four children, and one of them had 9 daughters and one son. Still, among the descendants there have been plenty of situations involving "indeterminate infertility".

It's worth having yourself checked out.

Each life is precious. Who knows what that twentieth child could have become? I still think of the child I miscarried 36 years ago. Praying for their hearts to heal.

I don't think difficulty having children is a problem for either of the Duggar parents. ;)

But she is 45, well past the high risk pregnancy age.

What a blow. Especially if it never crossed your mind that you might lose one, a baby who was already loved and wanted. Praying for them.

Sad for the Duggar family...they have a great, steadfast faith so that will help them thru. Mrs. Duggar had a lot of difficulties with her last (almost) full term pregnancy. Now a miscarriage. Her age and the stresses of all those pregnancies maybe catching up to her. As hard as it was to tell their family about this loss, it could be much, much worse (loss of Mom too).

I’m sorry to hear about this.
They are a nice family and I know this brought them sorrow.

One question, though, how could she not know she had a miscarriage even before she saw the doctor?

That is an old, overused joke, and I do not think making fun of someone who has just lost a baby is very nice.
