Damn, cold fronts!

I’m in Fairbanks, and I would never live there. That said, we have some things going on here in Alaska. Things like low humidity, low illegal aliens, no state taxes, tons of guns, and in the interior about the best summers u could imagine. Oh yeah, millions of acres of No One! Yep, life is rough!

I remember a story and video a couple of years ago about an ice shove coming ashore along Lake Huron. It was trashing some houses.

aftermath video here.

FABULOUS! That’s how December and Christmas is supposed to look! Anyone in Barrow want to trade apartments with me in warm, moldy Louisiana?
I had my sun quota in June.
If Barrow has a mall and the internet I could live there happily!

A heating coil in water jacket of engine, battery blanket with heating coil plugged in all night. Unless you want to park till spring.

Winter is starting this time of year, tis the end of fall in that picture.

Isn’t -15F this time of a year a heat wave??

That's what I thought, too, at least for Barrow.

We usually have colder weather than -15 here in North Dakota this time of year (this year has been blessedly warm--so far!)

Just curious, I see that house(?) near the water

Does the Arctic Ocean have tides?

If it does I assume they are much smaller difference than the Atlantic / Pacific being that the moon is never directly above and would be pulling on a much lower angle

I’ve always wanted to visit Barrow, but the whole no alcohol thing keeps me away! Question: can you ever swim in the ocean there or is it too cold year round?

I presume Barrow has water and sewers. How in the world do they protect water lines?

Here is something I never knew:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrow,_Alaska

In 1935 the famous humorist Will Rogers and pilot Wiley Post made an unplanned stop at Walakpa Bay 15 mi (24 km) south of Barrow while enroute to Barrow. As they took off again their plane stalled and plunged into a river, killing them both. There are now two memorials at the location, now called the Rogers-Post Site. There is another memorial located in Barrow, where the airport has been renamed the Wiley Post–Will Rogers Memorial Airport.[22]

*****

I knew that the airport was named Will Rogers, but never knew why until now.
