Just hours before, she joined her husband for a Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace with the Queen. But it was just the young royal set at the Sun Military Awards tonight.

The Duchess of Cambridge was the belle of the ball in a strapless black velvet dress as she walked the red carpet with her husband Prince William, who looked dapper in black tie

Prince Harry was two steps behind his older brother at London's Imperial War Museum, also donning a suit.

Kate's black Alexander McQueen gown - the same designer as her wedding dress - had frill trim around the bust and a fishtail-style skirt. It was so long on the five-foot, 10-inch Duchess, that she had to keep hitching it up to keep it from scraping on the ground.

Classic: Kate, whose shiny brunette locks were styled in loose curls, wore a chunky silver necklace and matching earrings and a bracelet which she received as a wedding gift

Nobody has mentioned that elegant necklace yet.

Why would a person paying as much for a dress as my whole family’s monthly bills not get the dress hemmed so she could walk normally?

The necklace is okay but I LOVE the bracelet.

I wish our first lady would choose to wear no more than 3 or 4 (at most) pieces of tasteful jewelry. It’s so tacky to wear as much as she does. But then our first lady dresses so inappropriately - no matter the occasion.

While the brothers are nice eye candy, I’d say a mini skirt would be the appropriate dress for an outing with Harry. All puns intended.

As others have said, that dress immediately brought back memories of Diana’s black number. Both beautiful ladies.

Agreed. Beautiful dress, lovely face, scary arms.
