Anyone else spending Christmas Eve alone? (vanity)

Merry Christmas everyone! My sincere hope is that all of you, each and every one, will have a joyous Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

Just wondering if any others out there are spending this sacred night solo.

Besides my trusty Boxer, Django the Wonderdog, and a new edition to the household, a gorgeous long-haired black cat I have dubbed Jackson, I have the house to myself all evening and night.

Tomorrow, it will be family wall-to-wall at mom's house, complete with gifts and an excellent multi-calorie dinner. But, tonight, I'll enjoy a quiet supper and a nice cappuccino, watching "The Muppet Christmas Carol," and maybe "A Christmas Story." Probably turn in early.

Anyone else in Freeperland alone tonight? Just curious.

Merry Christmas Skooz and All!

After several years of step kids, relatives and friends filling every inch of the house from thanksgiving through new years and a very bad relationship. I welcome the solitude this year.

Starting over is not easy but nothing worthwhile ever is.

God bless all the lonely FReepers, and for those on this thread who’ve already reminded us we’re never alone. I’m going to a family gathering in a little while. It’s not my own family but that of one of my best friends and they treat me like family, so I’m grateful.

I’ve spent holidays alone in the past and learned (the hard way!) that it’s far better to make plans, to be of service to others, and to focus on things I’m grateful for. Today I’m grateful for my faith, my health, my freedoms, my friends, my job, my home, FR, and my critters (dogs & cats who’ve spent all day with me NOT SHOPPING!).

God bless you all!

I am at work, guarding an empty office building against the attack of Santa and his elves.

It’s a long sad story, and I don’t want to talk about it.

Today, I read the morning WSJ, answered e-mails from Europe, sent some e-mail Greetings, the new cable modem arrived from Amazon, 3 days after I ordered it (it was supposed to arrive middle of next week at the earliest!) prepared some traditional food, the dog following my every step, even though there were no treats to be had, bought some milk and alcohol in the morning, in the afternoon white vinegar and cheap pecan pie, that the store must have been dumping before the holiday, didn’t take a single photograph today, just finished an instant cafe latte, will eat in an hour or so, or maybe not, FReeping.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Not exactly alone. I’m with my eggnog and Drambuie. I had an nicely prepared (by me) fillet Mignon with a side of sauteed onions and artichoke hearts and a couple of glasses of Merlot. I was watching clips on Youtube of the Tango. “Scent of a Women and “Take the Lead” are especially good but “True Lies” is fun to watch.

I had a hard time the first Christmas day or two I was away from the kids after the divorce. The only place I could find that was open for breakfast was Waffle House which ended up starting a tradition with the kids.

Every year we’d go to my folks house 3 hours away a couple of days before, do the family thing on Christmas Eve and then drive back to our town and their mom’s in the morning.

We’d hit the waffle house that was 1/2 way there eat breakfast and leave a huge tip. The last time we did it my son had a good paying internship and matched my tip, we left $100.

In the grand scheme, tomorrow is just another day. It’s how you stay active in your kid’s day to day lives that matters in the long run.

And FWIW, my kids deem their mom’s actions on Christmas, Birthdays and special days the “glory moments”. She was sporadically involved in their day to day lives but always made a big production at the holidays, etc.

I took/picked up them from school each day and made myself available 24/7 if they needed me. Now that they are grown the love dividend for the time I spent hauling them around and just being available is paying back in spades.

I’m spending Christmas Eve and Day alone. Alone with my faithful dog, friskie cat, 3 clucking chickens, 2 parakeets and 1000 earthworms. I’m sure there must be a few mice sneaking about silently.

Christmas carols playing in the background while I hangout in the second best place on earth... FreeRepublic.

Life is good :)

Remember those who won’t have family to go to tomorow.
And watch Red Skelton’s version of the Cop and the Anthem.
