I like The Avett Brothers, too! One I just stumbled on that you might like is Trampled By Turtles. They are a little more bluegrassy, but they have these beautifully sad songs. But their instrumentals are fast-paced and awesome. Their fiddler can play like mad!

Hollywood Gossip blog at facebook shows PP winning. Of course that’s unscientific. What disturbed me was that the camera crew at AI tonight kept showing a professional looking sign that said: PHEEL BETTER PHILLIP. It’s as if they were trying to imply that PP was too sickly to be the American Idol. They kept going bk to that professional sign. I do believe that was intentional and while PP was up there, of course he has no idea what all the cameras are shooting. Skylar and Hollie were way more interesting and ambitious about this process.
LOVED the Phillip song! Listened to it a few times. :)

LOL...I imagined Billy Joel taking a hammer or a shotgun to his TV if he was watching.
I guess the younger audience loves the rendition, because they did not listen to Billy sing it 2 billion times (as some of that grew up on him did). I really enjoy Philip, but this one hurt my ears.
Jimmy really stuck it to Jessica with that song selection. The judges called him out. On one hand, I’d like to see her win because of her talent. On the other hand, maybe she would be better off not winning and being under his “guidance”.
Are his kidneys that bad? After tomorrow night, I wonder what they'll do for him.
Jessica might win this, judging by the initial likes/dislikes on American Idol’s YouTube page for each performance.

I’d say Jessica deserves to win, but I wish them both well.
Jessica vs. Phillips is a joke. Jessica is one of the greatest singers in AI history. Phillips will probably win because he's a handsome kid.

If he wins I will be extremely happy for him. He seems like a really good guy.

Yeah, maybe when he seems lazy to me, but he just feels bad and hard to hide when something is chronic like that. Burt Reynolds had that too a while ago.
Sounds like he’s someone who is willing to endure a lot to reach a goal.
He’s not our favorite but that’s an American Idol quality to us.

I’m glad you liked it! I was going through Amazon’s recommendations and wasn’t really impressed with anything (the words, “Why does Amazon recommend this crap to me???” may have been said out loud), but that one really struck me.

Phillips breaks out the acoustic guitar, sets the forehead vein to maximum, and turns an 80's novelty song into a growling Dave Matthewsy ballad--with absolutely no melody.
The judges declare it genius.
I totally agree with how boring last night was. I usually have a favorite between the last two....especially when one is from my area....but after last night, I just don't really care who wins.

I have to add, for all those that are not from this area (which I call Northern Mexico) I thought it was funny how Seacrest pronounced the name of Jessica's town last night. He said it with a little Mexican flavor, as we all do....Chuuula Veeesta (in the same accent as "Guns? We don't need no steenkin guns"). I hadn't heard him do that until last night. Cracked me up.

Just a heads up for tonight. A handsome friend is coming to my house to cook me dinner. As these invitations do not come along all that often, I must split my time. I have warned him AI is on and being he is a musician I am sure he will roll his eyes and have a comment or two.

PP had a great night last night. Is tonight the finale, no waiting until next week? It just wasn’t Jessica’s night and someone wrote a real stinker of a song for her. PP’s song was somethin’ memorable that people could even play at weddings and anniversaries. I want to take you home or something like that but not in a sexy Rod Stewart kind of meaning.
Katherine McPhee’s mom is a singing coach. I wonder exactly how she helped either of these contestants.
Has it EVER occurred to anybody here that Jessica may have anorexia? She incredible thin, emaciated and maybe that’s why she’s not been singing any fast, powerific tunes lately. She looks emaciated to me - more than on day 1.
Dull competition between an anorexic and a guy with kidnay problems. They should have had medical sponsors this year instead of soft drinks and cars.
She isnt emaciated, she is a Filipino (read that to mean ASIAN background, ergo slight built and prone to be TINY)...
So lets not try and make excuses for her not singing a ‘fast” tune....the blame is on the producers that selected crap songs for all of them last night!
Love or hate Flamebert he can put on a show and has some great singing chops. When he does runs in a song they are always clean and spot on. He has some of the best voice control out there.
