The attacks by both Drudge and Beck on Newt are about as vicious as I've ever seen by either of them even on Obama. I turned off Beck some time ago due to his extreme doomer act and I'm starting to get to the point where I avoid Drudge as well. I understand that they might not be Newt fans but the force of their hatred toward him is stunning.
Of course you can question the man. But don’t you think character assassination is less than sporting?
You are right, the ethics violations were not the issue, the lost seats were. Newt’s tenure was interesting in that he made some major changes and had the Congress in lock step initially, but the longer he served the more disenfranchised many of the Republican members were. Part were definitely RINO’s but part of the conservative class of 94 felt he had lost his way.
Drudge to date as far as I know still has not posted the polls showing Newt ahead on Romney. He sure was quick to post the Pelosi nonsense. I do not visit his site anywhere as often as I used to. His bias is very blatant.
Glenn Beck has gone off the deep end. I have no use for the man anymore and I have stopped tuning him in.
I know. But that's not the main message the average voter will take away from all that. If Newt is our nominee (and there are really no other options at this point), all the voter will hear is this: Newt Gingrich was accused of ethics violations, and he resigned.
That's quite damaging.
As an aside, I find it very discouraging that conservatives resign when under pressure (Palin, Gingrich, Cain) while liberals fight back, and win (Ted Kennedy, Clinton, Barney Frank).
Glemn Beck and Romney share the same god. He sends messages to Glenn Beck and tells him the future but always gets the timing wrong (according to Glenn). The things happen but exacty when is the problem. Maybe the mormon god is kind of like our God except without a calender or a clock.
The man in the race with the worst character is Mitt Romney, it wouldn’t make sense to surrender to him.

I have researched Newt Romney Santorum and Cain. Cain Was my first choice Now its Newt BUT NEWT IS NOT A CONSERVATIVE. He is just the MOST CONSERVATIVE Candidate left that has a shot a winning.
So NEWT"S feet should be held to the fire at every chance we get. Let him know it is he who must meet us waaaaaay more than half-way. None of this "Rah Rah our guy won" and anything he does is Okey Dokey. We've been there and done that Damn it this time it needs to be done right!
NEWT, CUT THE BUDGET if Congress sends you a Budget that is one penny more than last year VETO IT ON PRIMETIME TV AND TELL CONGRESS YOU WILL KEEP DOING SO TILL THE BUDGET IS LESS THIS YEAR THAN LAST YEAR!
Bottom line Newt should not get a free ride from anyone. He should answer the questions honestly and admit his wrong doings and state "I will not repeat them!"
I think most freepers would agree that Mitt would be the easiest for Obama to defeat in the general otherwise why would most and the MSM be pushing him? With that being the case is Drudge/Beck secretly supporting Obama by attacking any threat to Mitt?
Gingrich has learned a thing or two after being railroaded. He’ll get his message out.

Drudge doesn’t do a thing other than post stories of interest.
He doesn’t decide what not to post or what stories to highlight (or push a flashing light next to)? I’ve yet to read an attack story on Drudge this election cycle about Romney. Does this mean that there are none or does it mean that Drudge decides to only post the ones about Newt?
The status quo was for 40 years the Dems held power. They gave the Republicans cover and pork. Congresscritters go to DC broke and end up wealthy. For them, it worked.
Along comes Gingrich. He gets control of the House. CHAOS! Budget cuts. Less pork. And the Republicans actually had to GOVERN. AND take responsibility. The Dems were outnumbered. The 98 budget was scheduled for a $1 Billion cut. GET RID OF NEWT. And they did. Phony ethics charges that were ALL dropped. AND they got to smear him.
Tell me what you see in the House right now? Lazy, ineffective Republicans? You bet. Do you think those spineless creatures want Gingrich rocking the boat. Ha!
His lawyer/account actually didn’t mess up. The FBI later cleared him of any wrong doing.
There was a thread recently stating the the NYT had all the charges on their front page dozens of time, but hid the fact that he was cleared in the middle pages of the back section. Can’t remember the title. If you look around you find it. Might be under NYT

I have never heard Drudge himself bad mouth Newt like Beck does.
