Mitt Romney: The Man Behind The Perma-Smile Mega-Rich, Mormon, Chilly and Ruthless
Mitt Romney may emerge as the Republicans' candidate to take on Barack Obama, but he has a good few obstacles to get over first
'Well, it's just great to be here!" Mitt Romney says as he bounds on to the stage at a campaign stop in January, just one of hundreds he has made in his epic journey he hopes to the White House. It is the first of three rallies he will be packing into a single day, this one held in the open air at a small liberal arts college in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
"This is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous," he continues, a perma-grin glued to his face. He has a way of talking down to the crowd, pausing after every sentence to allow them to soak it up, that is disconcertingly suggestive of that old pantomime favourite, Widow Twankey. "What kind of tree is that?" he says, looking up at the branches that arch over him with an expression of mock surprise. "I don't even know. Is it a Mitt Romney tree?"
The crowd laughs heartily, which is peculiar given the quality of the "joke" and the fact that, unlike a pantomime, there are few three-year-olds in the audience. (Besides, as any motley fool could tell you, the tree under which he is speaking is a laurel oak, Quercus hemisphaerica.)
It has been a rum old fortnight for the former governor of Massachusetts. Since 2007 he has been on the campaign trail virtually without pause, laying down a nationwide network of volunteers, fundraisers and supporters that his rivals Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul can only dream of.
But as the article goes on to state “core Republican voters distrust him.”
He’s a liar, slimebag fraud.
Good luck trying to connect with “the folks.”
He’s the custom made opponent for Obama.
GO TEA PARTY!
STOP ROMNEY NOW!
Romney is so easily beat in November its not funny
Isn't he the star of a television show called An Idiot Abroad?
Seriously, though why should we care what Lunchtime O'Booze of the British press thinks about anything?
I oppose Romney and, for now, support Newt. But there was one very reassuring part of this article and it was that in the author’s opinion, Romney will be just as vicious and devious in his attacks on Obama as he has been on other Republicans. We can only hope, because I’m afraid he’s going to win the nomination. By the time I vote against him in Ohio, it will likely be locked up.
I LIKE “mega-rich,” “chilly,” and “ruthless.” (’Pubbies needs a LOT more ruthlessness.) And I don’t care about Mitt being a Mormon.
Its the part about him not being a conservative, that bothers me.
Exactly, a perma smile, totally phony on despicable obamney.

No that is “Karl Pilkington” Not ed.

Its a Willie Mitty hangin tree
For treason you traitor...
I have held my nose for these country club Republicans for the last damn time. To add insult to injury was Ann Coulter, et al, who basically called Tea Party members uneducated hillbillies while they shilled for the NE liberal. These are the SAME people who hated Sarah Palin with a PASSION.
There will be NO Mitt Romney vote in this household! Good luck A-HOLES pulling the party together after YOU have tried to destroy your Republican opponent.
We can attack Mitt all we want for his beliefs/values but calling him a 1-percenter is Leftist talk and has no place among conservatives.
I’ll never ever vote for Romney nor will my family no matter how many of his stoogies come on here saying it will help obama.
I’ve had it with his lies and attacks and the way the establishment came out attacking our candidates.
I guarantee right now that the establishment thinks that because we hate obama then we will vote especially as they put a decent VP on the ticket like they did last time.
Well I for one will not fall for it, I held my nose and then they turned on Sarah , they have ignored us and what we want and I will now ignore them if Romney gets the nomination
[ Romney is so easily beat in November its not funny ]
Oh yes and even if he wins the end result is almost the same as obama, and it sets us up for another dim-o-crap victory in 2016.
I don’t care about R0mney’s facial expression.
I don’t care about R0mney’s wealth.
I don’t care where R0mney goes to church.
I utterly oppose R0mney because
R0MNEY IS A DISHONEST, PRO-ABORTION, GUN-GRABBING COMMUNIST.
Bet me. It’s said that “timing is everything” and this is NOT the time for the idiot GOP to run a 1-percenter when obama is raging against Wall Street and Romney is backed by Wall Street.
Romney can’t run against the system, because he is the system.
Romney running against Obama will be totally different than running against the conservative base, the media will not cover his attacks, and amplify them.
Smug little *astards that’s for sure!
Every time I see Ann Coulter’s face I turn the channel. She reminds me of a raving lunatic. The same goes for the rest of the mob who have been piling on not just Gingrich but the Tea Party!
Check out what many, if not most, of Romney advisors have said about the the Tea Party. They don’t think they will need us and actually DESPISE US!
They can KMA!
Romney Adviser: Many Republicans Dont Like Romney Because Theyre Stupid
Theres no end to the scorn Mitt Romneys campaign has for Republican primary voters. Theyre like a better-funded Huntsman campaign.
Another Romney adviser was more derisive of the Anybody But Mitt Republicans.
They like preachers, the adviser said of the tea party demographic. If you take them to a tent meeting theyll get whipped into a frenzy. Thats how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.
And from a supporter invited to speak:
Tampa attorney Paul Phillips illustrates the gap. He came to Romneys Tuesday morning State of the Union pre-buttal dressed for a business meeting, sporting a blue pinstriped suit and a smart polka-dot tie.
Im an educated elitist, Phillips said before Romney spoke in a warehouse that has closed during the economic recession. I mean seriously, I dont view the tea party with a very good light. Most of them quote the Constitution and dont understand it. Its pretty scary, actually.
“calling him a 1-percenter is Leftist talk and has no place among conservatives.”
Neithr does romney...so we’re even.
