– Mitt Romney may emerge as the Republicans' candidate to take on Barack Obama, but he has a good few obstacles to get over first

'Well, it's just great to be here!" Mitt Romney says as he bounds on to the stage at a campaign stop in January, just one of hundreds he has made in his epic journey – he hopes – to the White House. It is the first of three rallies he will be packing into a single day, this one held in the open air at a small liberal arts college in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
"This is gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous," he continues, a perma-grin glued to his face. He has a way of talking down to the crowd, pausing after every sentence to allow them to soak it up, that is disconcertingly suggestive of that old pantomime favourite, Widow Twankey. "What kind of tree is that?" he says, looking up at the branches that arch over him with an expression of mock surprise. "I don't even know. Is it a Mitt Romney tree?"
The crowd laughs heartily, which is peculiar given the quality of the "joke" and the fact that, unlike a pantomime, there are few three-year-olds in the audience. (Besides, as any motley fool could tell you, the tree under which he is speaking is a laurel oak, Quercus hemisphaerica.)
It has been a rum old fortnight for the former governor of Massachusetts. Since 2007 he has been on the campaign trail virtually without pause, laying down a nationwide network of volunteers, fundraisers and supporters that his rivals – Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul – can only dream of.

I oppose Romney and, for now, support Newt. But there was one very reassuring part of this article and it was that in the author’s opinion, Romney will be just as vicious and devious in his attacks on Obama as he has been on other Republicans. We can only hope, because I’m afraid he’s going to win the nomination. By the time I vote against him in Ohio, it will likely be locked up.
I LIKE “mega-rich,” “chilly,” and “ruthless.” (’Pubbies needs a LOT more ruthlessness.) And I don’t care about Mitt being a Mormon.
Its the part about him not being a conservative, that bothers me.

There’s no end to the scorn Mitt Romney’s campaign has for Republican primary voters. They’re like a better-funded Huntsman campaign.
Another Romney adviser was more derisive of the Anybody But Mitt Republicans.
“They like preachers,” the adviser said of the tea party demographic. “If you take them to a tent meeting they’ll get whipped into a frenzy. That’s how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.”

Tampa attorney Paul Phillips illustrates the gap. He came to Romney’s Tuesday morning State of the Union pre-buttal dressed for a business meeting, sporting a blue pinstriped suit and a smart polka-dot tie.
“I’m an educated elitist,” Phillips said before Romney spoke in a warehouse that has closed during the economic recession. “I mean seriously, I don’t view the tea party with a very good light. Most of them quote the Constitution and don’t understand it. It’s pretty scary, actually.”

I can’;t even write what I think of the establishment and Romney but I will say I’;ve had it with them and they will never get my support, money or vote.
