I live outside Chicago. My current provider for bundled Cable, Internet and home based landline costs 179 dollars a month. I have the large selection of cable stations including History, Military etc, without any premium channels. or DVR.
I'm coming to you my friends to see what suggestions, or ingenious Freepers have come up with to obtain service; I'd like a large number of Cable stations plus a DVR. My son insists upon Internet fast enough to play video games inter-actively online. We need wireless internet for our laptops. I would like a DVR machine with any new service. I don't need the landline service. I would like to learn how to use Skype, or another similar service. Help Your suggestions and thoughts are welcome here; Help!
I have my county co-op providing my basic digital cable and hi-speed internet for $124 per month. I don’t get premium channels like HBO or Cinemax, just the basic tier cable with NFL, Discovery, SyFy, ESPN, etc. I dropped my land line three years ago to save money.
Oh, a DVR is included in my cable package.
I have U-verse bundled and it is 161. The internet is DSL unlimited and 200 or so cable channels. They added FBN within the past few months.

I went with Verizon wireless for my telephone. I kept the same land line number and assume that gives 911 my address when I call.
The reason was my landline was down every time it rained, buzzing in the line and out oforder. It would take them a week to fix it after several calls.
Verizon and I assume all of the telephone companies are eventually going to stop maintaining and laying new hard wires and convert to only wireless anyway.Therefore their land lines will continue to decline and be allowed to deteriorate. We havent seen any new lines in place in years, and Verizon is laying off line workers.
Although she still is watching the programs on cable, my wife gets her recipes on the Food Channel web site.
I have U-Verse @ $185 a month.
300 plan for TV plus sports package, Wireless, box to record (view recordings from 3 TV’S) record 4 HD shows at the same time), for 3 TV’S,includes VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), Internet @10 MPM and is very stable.
It is the source of much entertainment.

I haven't had cable in probably 20 years, however. I travel fairly often for work and get my "fix" when I travel.
I live in Rural (with indeed a capital "R") West Texas and we have internet through a land line with AT&T. Our internet choices are very limited but this has worked very well. My sons are into gaming and my husband and I both have to have internet for work. We can all be online at the same time with no issues.
We do have Netflix but only for streaming. Some of the older Food Network programs are available on DVD but I haven't chosen to watch any that way.
We don't use our landline for telephone service. We gave that up a few years ago when we realized we were basically paying for nothing; we never used the landline after we all got cell phones.
No matter who you have......do this....

They will ask you why (always do)
Tell them that you are going to another company that charges less(have the numbers in front of you) or that you can’t afford it.
They want to keep your business and will give you a better deal.

Food.com, which used to be Recipezaar is connected with the Food Network in someway or another. There are all kinds of links their to FoodTV.
The Food network and the Travel Channel are the 2 I miss the most since we ditched Dish better than 3 years ago. My husband misses History and ESPN and our 13yo misses some of the Discovery channels (I think we had 3)National Geographic and Animal Planet. We live!
Comcast has a call center desk that is their “retention specialist”. Ask for that person. They can get you down to $79.99 monthly for their “Triple Play” if you commit to two years. You may have to talk about things like Amazon Prime and Netfilx via streaming video to get them to geek, but they will. That will save you $2,400 over the two years. Or you can “cut the cable” (google the phrase) and save even more.

Another choice - if there's competition in your area - is call and ask for a better deal. Somehow these folks seem to come through if they feel mildly concerned you might move you money to a different company. Not a bad idea to call some of the competitors to know in advance what a great offer they're making...
Whatever. 911 will be able to locate you. I see that blond genius pinpoint an address from a cell phone signal in minutes in every episode of “Criminal Minds”. ;-)

Their everything data plan for $19/mo? I’ll take it! Even though they’re only going with the LG Optimus (Android phone)for now. My Sprint all data plan is $100/mo. And if you want an Iphone which they’re now offering its $110/mo. No thanx I don’t need an Iphone that bad

Probably a trend for residential suburbs - but not for rural areas with no towers and not likely for commercial buildings, stores, offices and government.

I have an antenna in the attic which is connected to the cable system in the house. Quality is better than cable, it is available throughout the house and we get about thirty different programming choices at any given time.
We live out in the sticks so we get our internet from a rural wireless delivery system, speed isn’t great but good enough to stream Netflix, Hulu and Divx TV. We pay $50/mo for internet and another $15 for Netflix DVD and streaming.
I have a couple of hard drive based digital recorders that I bought from WalMart years ago. They have digital tuners but only record in DVD quality. I also have one computer connected to the TV with a digital tuner so I can record in full HD if I want but I haven’t been that attached to a TV show for a number of years.
Cost wasn’t our biggest issue, but the money saved is a nice thing. We always have something to watch when we want.
