The Oglala Sioux Tribe has filed a lawsuit against brewers, retailers and distributors of alcohol sold in Whiteclay, Nebraska. The lawsuit was announced today at a news conference hosted by Nebraskans for Peace.
Attorney Tom White, legal counsel for the Oglala Sioux Tribe, said the defendants are engaged in a common enterprise focused on assisting and participating in the illegal importation of alcohol sold at Whiteclay onto the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The sale, possession and consumption of alcohol is illegal on the Pine Ridge, where tribal members suffer from crippling poverty and alcoholism rates. Whiteclay lies less than 250 feet from the reservation border.
"The Oglala Sioux Tribe seeks compensation for all of the damages the Lakota people have suffered as a result of illegal alcohol sales," said White, who is with White and Jorgensen Law Offices in Omaha. "The defendants have failed to make reasonable efforts to ensure their products are distributed and sold in obedience to the laws of the State of Nebraska and the Oglala Sioux Tribe."...
"All those involved in the sale of alcohol in Whiteclay are knowingly contributing to this notorious, illegal behavior and preying upon the Lakota people," said Frank LaMere, who has directed attention in Nebraska to Whiteclay since 1997...

Nobody forced anyone to start drinking. Who thought this stunt up, Chief Runamuka?
So then they ADMIT prohibition doesn't work?
Maybe this is what John Edwards has been up to while he awaits the filing of criminal charges against him...
...and if the suit goes to trial before he does, he can garner sympathy from the jury by “channeling” a drunken Indian.
Pabst Blue Ribbon. It’s blended...It’s splendid!
It was Chief Rumancoka.
So, the Pine Ridge “tribe members” won’t assimilate into the rest of society, can’t be expected to provide their own food, shelter, or income, and can’t be held responsible for any of their own actions.
Quite the culture they’ve got there.
Indians scattered on dawn's highway drinking...
Kegs crowd the tribe's fragile teepee bar.
(Running and ducking.......)
In a joint statement the brewing giants said,
“You give us our beer back, we give you your money back”.
As yet the tribe has not replied.
What that means is they can buy a couple of six-packs and get drunk for several weeks!
Sounds like a deal to some people ~ but it's a miserable way to live.
Two ways to defeat the problem are to bring in the church people ~ much as the Northern Sa'ami, Inari Sa'ami and Skolt Sa'ami have done. They have a lower incidence of alcoholism than their tropical neighbors to the South.
Another way, if you don't like church people, is to physically drive out the alcohol sellers. Moslems use that method and it seems to work fairly well. Of course they beat up those who succumb as well.
Otherwise you are up against BIOLOGY and SCIENCE ~ and imagining everybody is the same as the Episcopal church ladies in the Greater London suburbs simply will not help.
fine they sue us for alcohol we double sue them for tobacco and all the smoking related deaths.
Only the downstream mixed-race (Assiniboine/Spanish/French) people like the Comanches and Osage acquired that trait.
Still, a neighbor girl grew up to find out she was an adopted Indian. She sought out her tribe in Texas (near Waco I believe), married a young man, had half a dozen sons and discovered Indian alcoholism.
She became a big AA advocate and saved her family. There's no social use of alcohol in her group ~ just doesn't happen.
NOTE: I grew up in a neighborhood with NUMEROUS American Indians from various tribes and the ones doing well didn't drink. The ones who fell into lives of crime (bankrobbery and interstate car theft) drank. Saw it all first hand.
You put that alcohol sales facilities 100 miles away, that'll solve the immediate tribal problem.
Think of it as zoning on a very large scale.
Teddy Roosevelt decided it was no longer needed and turned the land over for public sale to illegal aliens. Besides proving he was no Conservative and no respecter of the Fifth Amendment, he also demonstrated he didn't like Indians any more than did Andrew Jackson.
Today, Whiteclay has 14 inhabitants who run four liquor stores ~ its sole purpose is to sell liquor to Indians.
I'd say that as real Republicans and real Conservatives we must turn our backs on Teddy Roosevelt and his Progressive criminal faction and support the Oglala Sioux.
Alright, crawl a while
Get on out there on your hands and knees, baby
Crawl all over me
Just like the spider on the wall
Ooo, we gonn’ crawl
Works for me!
That was his cousin who got lost and founded the Fugawes...
