Cities with the most speed traps

When lead-footed drivers get snagged and ticketed, their downfall might have been passing a speed trap where a cop was using radar or a laser, or maybe the driver passed a speed camera. However, as technology improves traffic enforcement, it is also progressing on the side of the speeder. Now joining the radar detector is crowd-sourced reporting of speed traps, a virtual warning system using the Internet and a mobile app.

This list of the 10 most-active cities for speed traps was compiled by Trapster.com, a community platform accessed online and via smartphone app, that alerts drivers to traps, hazards and other traffic issues nearby.

The new “LIDAR” or laser radar is hard to beat.

However, I got a cop to tell me it was spelled “Lie Dar” with a laugh.

That was all I needed, the prosecutor dropped the case against me.

(I drive 30,000 miles a year. I try to follow the law, but speed traps, where the speed limit drops and then goes up again, for no apparent reason, really bother me.)

I haven’t looked at the list yet, but I would nominate Madison Co. Fl. They are on the I-10 corridor and reap huge tickets and drugs.

I don’t speed. My if I were a speeder or drunk driver, I would prefer to be in these metro areas. Hard to blend in on a country road when you are the only car there... but I get the authors point.

In some of these cities it’s more about traffic cameras than about speed traps. They’re more likely to catch people who go through red lights or fail to stop at stop signs than those who are exceeding the speed limit.

I vote for Quanah TX in Hardeman Co. US287 is one long speed trap between Wichita Falls and Amarillo.

Seward’s Junction, TX north of Austin. They’ll ticket you while admitting you were going the speed limit.

Its not about speed, safety or even the law. Its about revenue.

You’re correct. Madison County issued 7,000 moving violations last year. Unfortunately only 2,000 people live there. Welcome to the south..

I love my K40 All-Band Radar & LIDAR Deflector ...it has *saved* my life more than once...but you have to react very quickly to slow down. The most annoying, here in CT is being *clocked* by the cop...has happened a couple of times ...and having the court nolle it are pretty slim, unless you get an attorney.

A motorist was unknowingly caught in an automated speed trap that measured his speed using radar and photographed his car. He later received in the mail a ticket for $40 and a photo of his car. Instead of payment, he sent the police department a photograph of $40. Several days later, he received a letter from the police that contained another picture...of handcuffs. The motorist promptly sent the money for the fine. :)

I will add:

Vider, tx; a legendary speedtrap well known throughout the South

McClintock, tx bad

$ealy, tx. So bad that many of the people who live in the surrounding area go to other nearby towns to shop. I have bought nothing in sealy for at least 10 years becuase of the speed traps. They have high ticket collection revenues, they but have lost 10 times or 20 times that in sales taxes. Many millions of dollars have been lost because many of the people who refuse to shop there are ranchers who drop 20,000 oe 30,000 on equipment when they go to shop. Really bad management.

As I told one store owner “customer service begins at the city limits”.
