Rasmussen: Voters Oppose Obamacare's Contraception Mandate 50% to 39%
The Weekly Standard ^ | 02/08/2012 | John McCormack

Posted on 02/11/2012 3:49:39 PM PST by erkyl

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 39% of Likely U.S. Voters believe the government should require a church or religious organization to provide contraceptives for women even if it violates their deeply held beliefs. Fifty percent (50%) disagree and oppose such a requirement that runs contrary to strong beliefs, while 10% more are undecided. [...]

Sixty-five percent (65%) of Catholic voters oppose this requirement, as do 62% of Evangelical Christians, and 50% of other Protestants. Most non-Christians (56%) support the Obama Administration ruling.

It occurred to me today that this is all a diversion to distractthe rest of us from what is really happening with Obamacare and birth control and abortifacients. You realize that while we are wringing our hands over a mandate for Catholics and other faith-based organizations having to provide these drugs to their employees, that Obamacare is mandating this for ALL employers. This means that all of us, working for every employer who provides health coverage, will collectively through our premium payments, be subsidizing the birth control and abortifacient drugs taken by the women working along side us. All working people of conscience on this issue will now be helping to pay for abortions. And, that, is what this is all about. We are missing the forest for the trees, people. Wake up!

Voters oppose ALL of Obamacare. Anything less is handing a win to Obama.

You're being conned. It's very clever.

Still, Obama's shills imagine it's all about killing babies ~ their favorite sport.

See howcareful Rasmussen is to not say what the religious affiliations of the fans of that sort of thing might be.

Hmm. Do you imagine they are Buddhists? Atheists? Moslems?

What a mystery.

It’s depressing that one out of three Catholics don’t oppose the HiSS mandate. But I once saw a poll that 20% of Americans don’t know which president is on a one dollar bill. Knowing a 20% clueless bias is built into this 33% is somewhat consoling.

I just don’t understand why the vast majority are not screaming....”GET RID OF OBAMACARE” rather than challenging just this one issue.

Good observation!

What the Republican Establishment will not be able to understand is that those opposing the mandate, STRONGLY OPPOSE it, while those supporting the mandate (i.e., feminists - i.e., people who rarely have opportunities to worry about contraception) are nearly as strong on the issue.

Therefore it is CLEARLY a winning issue for Republicans...but it takes a brain to figure that out...so no forget about them running with it.

It’s ASTOUNDING that 39% believe the state can mandate a person violate their religious conscience.

Hmmm. On the first day this was made widely public, the numbers were reversed. I think that’s one reason Obama thought he could get away with it. He thought the majority was on HIS side in this matter. Seems the more folks know about it, the more they DON’T LIKE IT!

Narses: But not by a lot and many non-Christians will take part in polls, but don’t vote.

People are starting to understand what the real issue is. It’s not about birth control. It’s about freedom to practice religion without interference from the federal government. And even more than that, it’s about a violation of the Bill of Rights which no American should sit still for. If they can come after the Catholics to force them to do things against their wills, they can come after anybody to force them to do things against their wills.

If this mandate goes into effect and Catholics start to withdraw services, you’ll see people coming out of the woodwork wondering what happened. Catholics run an absolutely huge charity network in this country that takes care of people, many of whom aren’t Catholic.

Catholics will just point them toward the Government and “That’s what happened. Get an explanation from them.”

And this should happen right around August, just before the presidential elections.

And your insurance is going to go up. I wonder who all is going to get a cut of the proceeds. Wanna bet a certain abortion provider that’s usually located in the black district is the one that gets the most?

Of course, the black people in the neighborhood will never see any of it.

Yup, the real ramifications are starting to sink in. The more people think about it, the more people talk about it, the more they get it. Especially when they start to put this piece with the Obamacare piece that they hated to start with.

Yes - I saw the story and wondered where all Nancy Pelousy's "Catholics" are. I'm a bit stunned they haven't nay-sayed her assertion that so many of them agree with he.

what ALWAYS matters is the first poll not the second or third.

The first poll is on page one, the rest are burried.

The MSM did the story and will not cover any more.

This is the same with ecconomic numbers and revisions.

an atheist, who as a matter of conscience objects to abortion, is left out in the cold on this.

IOW there is no freedom or liberty in Obamacare.
