Missing Postal Mail Problem
ML/NJ

Posted on 02/15/2012 11:01:30 AM PST by ml/nj

Two of the past four months I have not received my Visa bill in the mail. A week and a half ago I called Visa and they said they would send out a copy of my statement to me. It still isn't here.

So today I called my local Post Office and told this story to the guy that answered the phone. "Not us," he said. When I asked him how he knew this, he asked me if I was receiving other things that were mailed to me. When I told him that I had no way of knowing who was mailing stuff that I might not be receiving and told him I was still waiting for something from NYC that I requested a month and a half ago, he told me that Chase (my Visa card) was having problems with mail they were sending out. I asked him if this had been reported in the news. He told me, no, but he knew about it because he worked for the Postal Service. Pressed further he said there had been something about it on their website a year ago (when I didn't have a problem) but it might not be there now (when I do).

Aaaaargh !

I think your mail person should be fired.
But of course, that will never happen.

I read the entire thread. I guess I wasn’t very clear. What exactly did you tell them, that they thought you were an idiot? Were you ranting?

Let me ask that better. Were you in there yelling about your lost mail and accusing them? Based on your thread-starting post, it’s entirely possible they don’t have any idea why you’re not getting your bill. Were you demanding answers that maybe they had no way of providing? Were you being belligerent?

You are aware how many millions of pieces of mail go through the post office, the sorting machines (the “sortation machines” like the oafs like to call them), how it’s possible at the speed letters are being sorted that some get eaten by the machine, address portions destroyed, etc?

Are you absolutely sure that the bill was actually mailed? There are imbeciles that work for credit card companies also. These are questions I’m trying to get answers to. If they’re treating you like an idiot, is there even a chance that they have a legitimacy to their view?

There are a LOT of people that call and ask absolutely impossible questions, like “is my check coming today?” when we haven’t even sorted out the mail trays yet, or something. If you have a specific complaint with specific information about your bill and you KNOW without any doubt that the PO is at fault, I’d be impressed. That would mean you’ve followed that singular piece of mail from the originating printer, into the envelope, through the Credit card company’s mailroom, to the trucks, and all the interchanges that it must traverse, into the end post office, and through everyone’s hands that may have handled it.

In our office, it’s extremely rare something gets left behind. If it’s come in, it is getting delivered. Every letter, every parcel, every box-holder. I’m NOT trying to call you an idiot, I’m trying to explain rationally, in a “Bash the USPS” current environment, how this can happend, and how they may be bending over backwards for you and you miss ONE bill and complain.

"Two of the past four months I have not received my Visa bill in the mail."

Do you have a problem with reading comprehension?

Gee. For 45 years I've been getting credit card bills. Stupid me! It just never occurred to me that they might decide not to bill me sometimes. Only an imbecile would think that there are any humans involved any more in sending out such bills except for the guy who delivers sacks of sorted envelopes to the imbeciles at the Post Office.

One bill: Visa. Two occasions. Excuuuuuuse me for not clarifying it down to the dots and dashes. I THINK you understood what I meant.

"So today I called my local Post Office and told this story to the guy that answered the phone."

What do you think he was going to say or do over the phone? "Oh, wait! Here it is on my desk!" or look it up on some mysterious computer?

Gee. For 45 years I've been getting credit card bills. Stupid me!

I might actually agree with this. You've had credit cards for 45 years?!? Crap!

It just never occurred to me that they might decide not to bill me sometimes.

Did I say that? What I so poorly attempted to explain is that there are humans all along the chain, any singular human could foul up the delivery of your bill(s), even before it reaches the Post Office! Shazam!

Now, can we quit with the smarmy quote/reply game here? I was honestly trying to figure out what you were saying to the person that answered the phone at the Post Office when you called to complain. If indeed they treated you like an idiot, consider how you've treated me here, trying to figure out what happened and offering up suggestions that may improve your understanding of how screw-ups can happen. They can happen without the guy on the phone having ANY CLUE why. It's entirely possible that if you treated the Post office employee as sarcastically as you've treated me, he probably DID treat you like an idiot.

I do work for the PO and I am honestly interested in these types of screw-ups, and hope to learn from stuff like this. I'm always trying to up MY understanding that I may better serve my customers. I also am honestly trying to help people understand that the PO isn't completely full of imbeciles, loafs, oafs, and sluggards. I bust it and I get aggravated with any PO people that don't give it 100% effort every day. Sorry if I piss you off, but I'm actually trying to help.

You, Pal, are exactly what's wrong with government employees: self righteous, rude and braindead seem to be your most charming qualities.
