So there are “reports” of sounds, but no actual recordings. Interesting topic. But the sounds are more like static and faint - not the loud, low frequency noises people claim to hear and record.

The people don't sound like hoaxers to me at all

According to the people in your video, they live only 3 miles away from the airport. I suspect the noise they were listening to was that of an airliner(s) waiting for take off until the end when it decided to shut off the engines.

The corresponding flash was probably just a coincidental flash of lightening, probably an off shore or inland storm......that's the best I can come up with...

I would think if you had lived by an airport for any length of time you would be familiar with many sounds and know when you were hearing something out of the ordinary even for that location.

I would say so too.....However, there are many sounds around us that we've gotten used to and just normally block out. For example, I live about a half mile away from a major 8 lane highway that is not an expressway, where the speed limit is 50 mph.

I can wake up in the morning at about 5:30 a.m. and lie in bed in the spring and listen to the birds chirping. Nothing wrong with that except this is spring and those birds haven't been around all winter and that's why they're now noticeable.

Then as I explore with my hearing, I suddenly pick up the distant low moan of the highway traffic which goes on 24/7 and until then, has been transparent since my mind has filtered it out. If I were to have a visiter who lives out in the country stop by, they would probably notice that noize right away then forget about it as they get used to it.....

Another extreme example would be someone who lives near railroad tracks and has gotten used to the daily rumble of the trains. To us dropping by, we would probably say to him how the heck can you put up with that noise......

I heard about this a few days ago, and then happen to watch Lord of the Rings that evening. These EXACT sounds were played in the movie when Merry and Pippin are thinking of going into Fangorn Forest. It’s a hoax!

Satchmo has been known to voice his exuberance over ZOTS, so this may well be his musical coda to these events. A trumpet version of the above...

I used to work for halliburton back in the late 80’s and early 90’s on one of their Frac crews. When we had all the pump trucks up and running and at full power, one could hear the roar for several 10’s of miles. Some of the video's sound amazingly similar to that kind of engine roar.

In addition to the sounds there have been reports of odd flashes of light on completely clear nights. I would call these events natural occurrence...But I will say, we witnessed the flashing 2 times this summer. Once on the north shore of lake superior and the other about 25 NW of Minneapolis. Completely clear on both nights. Pulsing Blue Flashes, about 4 or so pulses. My wife and I both saw it and were rather chilled by the experience. We thought maybe Electric Transformers Blowing, Or distant lightning. Nope. No power outages within 150 miles of us. And NO Storms within 100 miles. Rather eerie

Anyone else?

Listen to the sound of this airplane. See if you hear a similarity.

Antonov 70.

You have to wait until the 1:00 minute mark to hear it.

In these days of difficulty getting employment it is gratifying and encouraging to know what the competition is. It is startling what the average person comes up with to explain an unknown phenomenon. Pole shifts, aliens, God; really?

I was with a group of people standing outside the township government building after a meeting, and they were all standing around listening to “the sounds”. Businessmen, lawyers, policemen, what I would have thought were intelligent, capable people. These people were terrified! First, the sound was not at all loud; if a car was driving by, the sound could not be heard. Second, the sound was so familiar to me, I couldn’t believe no one else new. It was an interesting sound to be heard there. Waling, moaning, roaring; coming from the sky; it was so fun to watch the people and their reactions!

It was an overcast drizzly night with maybe a temperature inversion? The DOT had, within a couple of years, built sound barriers along the highway five miles away. What everyone was so scared of was normal truck tire noises echoing off the clouds. These people, who were standing out side A POLICE STATION, called 911!

How entertaining was that!

I lived the first 18 years of my life less than three miles from Stapleton Int. Airport and not even when planes were landing or taking off within a quarter mile of my house was the volume of the sound that loud nor did it sound like that. It didn’t sound anything like an airplane to me either. We also became so inured to the sound of air traffic that we rarely noticed it much less thought it was strange or out of place.

After further thought I suspect it's just a rare natural phenomenon. It would have been much more noticeable to pre industrial populations and could explain why angels were often portrayed with trumpets in early art:

Wow...I missed this whole discussion but just a few days ago I heard this here. Honestly shut everything down to ‘hear’ it. I would have to go check my notes for the exact date, but it was about 4am.

I live near an airport(major hub) and there is lots of rail here too. At first I had thought it was the storm warning siren.

I disagree with you. If I am less than 2 miles from the major airport and busy rail lines less than half a mile...

...if something sounds wrong to me it is a plane in trouble, a train jumps tracks, a car hit ...something other than my normal ‘background’ noise.

i don't post often, and have made little mention of this to anyone but my immediate family at the time, and i haven't posted about this anywhere,

i live in the mid-west, and back last August, after lunch i was going through a drive-thru to get a coffee, anyway, it was when i rolled down the window to order that i first noticed the sound. It was loud and was like scraping or metal crunching along with a waterfall or rushing sound? i thought it must be road construction? i wish now i had asked the gal at the window if she could hear it, after i got my coffee, i drove around for a few minutes in the immediate vicinity to see what it was, and didn't find anything, or any work being done with heavy machinery. Finally i drove a block or so to a mall parking lot and rolled down the window. The sound level while driving around always stayed the same, I never seemed to get further away from it, or for it to diminish which i thought was odd, i parked for a few minutes to drink the coffee, then i saw two men walking out of a store toward my direction and I watched closely to see how they would react and nothing, they didn't pause, look up or miss a step.

i was running late, so i turned out of the parking lot, drove to the stop light and took one final look across to a K-mart parking lot and again didn't see any work being done, by the time the light changed and i turned the corner, the sound just stopped.

it was strange enough and made enough of an impression that i checked the local paper on-line a few days afterward and found nothing at all reported, if it was a tornado alarm, they need to work on the speakers, this was unusual sounding,
the time of day was approx 12:40 PM to 12:55 PM on whatever day it was, as i had to race back to work,

anyway, i was unaware of any similar reports, and checking the internet headlines using google, i noticed a few discussing something similar, and found just a couple of youtube videos, including the one in Kiev which was about the same time, but what i heard sounded nothing like that,

a month or so ago, the local news reported a lot of folks hearing ‘booming’ sounds, they reported this as ‘sky quakes’ i didn't hear them myself and what i heard was not booming or trumpet like.

The video link posted from the Amarillo radio station, if its not just a publicity stunt/hoax for ratings? sounded just like the Kiev video? what you do with this info i have no idea, just fyi

Glad to have read both your posts. Here is the original thread I took note of with fellow FReepers who have experienced this.

Within the thread is a link to another with more FReepers who have heard it. I have not and really don’t think I want to.

You two might contact some of these FReepers and compare notes. Might help you sort things out.

I don’t have an explanation, other than I know what trains starting and stopping sound like, I know what planes landing and taking off sound like. Heck, I am close enough to the airport that the security choppers hold the airspace over my house when the President comes and goes.

The sound is described in the videos as loud. I would say it is not so much as loud as it was resonate. You actually felt it, the vibration.

Although if you want to have some fun, read this link. It is very old, but gives one pause to consider....

http://forum.prisonplanet.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=163qrsuepgk8ajrf6qdf1ttup5&topic=76616.msg424862#msg424862

And follow the click to the guy trying to debunk it. It is interesting how he describes the sound of pink and purple noise. We could be on the edge of a leap forward in military weapons.

How sad that I can’t share the experience of listening to LJN for as late as I could stay up over a period of many years. The Wikipedia misses many important items.

Every Halloween Nebel held a seance with Houdini’s widow, in an effort to contact Houdini because he promised that if there was an afterlife, he would try to contact his wife. There was always a candle. On one occasion or another the medium revealed something characteristic of Houdini and all were shocked. However, after many years of failed attempts, Mrs. Houdini blew out the candle and gave up her efforts.

Nebel spent months weaving the most intricate stories: That late at night, the Empire State Building was rotated ever so slightly on giant ball bearings; That the best candle wicks were grown on “wick farms” in a certain state.

Callers would call and tell Nebel “I hope the cancer gets you” and call him a Kike. He would tell them to go to that jar of formaldehide where they keep their brain and put it back in.

He was always good natured and fun. But it was raw late night radio.

I used to be able to stay up late listening to Bob Grant at the top of his game, followed by LJN.

To put it mildly, George Nori and even Art Bell are total bores compared to LJN. If you can listen to a tape, try him out.

I heard sounds accompanying aurora once. I lived in the country at the time and it was a very still winter night. It sounded like someone crinkling cigarette cellophane at 30’ away. The aurora was ribbon-like 10 - 20 degrees above the horizon and was a yellow-orange color.

It seems that not everyone hears the sound - or at least they are not concerned about it and don’t stop to look, etc. So it seems that only certain people hear the sound. So perhaps only certain people are getting the message? (Like the prophets? Of course then there was no missunderstanding that it was God talking and not just Him tuning His bass guitar!)

That said - how come they can get it on a cam-corder then? And I know I’m naive - but I do lend more credence to freepers’ comments of hearing it more than a youtube video. And there are some news accounts of the phenomena that would tend to back up some of the reports. (The one from Vancouver, Canada was interesting).
