That’s sad news, a sudden death, and he was not old.
No, an American rock group with a British lead singer. Is Garbage a Scottish group because the lead singer is from Scotland?
He was scheduled to appear here in March....
I saw him in concert in 2008. He was a good sport. Put on the original jacket he wore on the Brady Bunch when he sang “Girl.”
I used to watch their show when I was a kid... this is so sad. Hope he was spiritually prepared.
...And then I saw her face....Now I’m a Believer,
Without a trace....Of doubt in my mind....
Simple, no bullshit lyrics, that in their uncluttered elegance, say so much.
From a better America.
Real shame he was a good guy. I read last year he was campaigning to get the Monkees into the Rock N Roll Hall of fame but the RNR refused on the excuse that the “Monkees where not a real band who did not record their own music”.
Well what the hell do they think Madonna is? Madonna, who inexplicably IS in the RNR hall of fame?
A woman (if you can call her that) where just about all of her hit songs were written and recorded by other people? All she did was lay down her vocals..Hmmm, wow just like the Monkees! And unlike Madonna, the Monkees actually recorded/put out ROCK AND ROLL!
A few years ago I’m watching a DVD of the Beatles on Sullivan and one of the other acts is the cast from the B’way show Oliver!. This young kid is singing a duet with the star (someone or other Brown). As young as the kid is he’s bringing it off like and old hand. It occurred to me to wonder what happens to a kid that talented? Why have we not heard of him in latter years. I mean, he’s on B’way at about 12 years of age and acting quite the trouper. Where’d he go? Long story short: His name was Davey Jones. RIP dude.
When I was a kid in the sixties, people in their thirties were getting old; after all hadn’t they fought the Red Chinese on Pork Chop Hill way back when everything was still in black and white?
Now, somebody pushing seventy is young?
“Is Garbage a Scottish group because the lead singer is from Scotland?”
I dunno about that, but if so you could make a very strong case for Van Halen being a Dutch band since Alex and Eddie were born in the Netherlands...
That’s a Neil Diamond song. A lot of their stuff was written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, too. Almost nothing of their own was on their records as far as I recall.
For death? Yeah. 13 years under life expectancy is definitely young to die.
“Now, somebody pushing seventy is young?”
Now that many of us live well into our seventies and even eighties, 66 is young by comparison.
Look at Helen Thomas. Still alive and she’s 433 years old.
Back in the late 70s the college I was attending decided—who knows why— to show a XXX movie at the student center. Davy Jones was in it.
Until they got away from Don Kirschner.
That’s what I keep telling myself.
The Boyce-Hart pop magic was always evident. Diamond, Carol King and Michael Murphy also contributed, along with some stellar work by top-drawer, LA session musicians.
I didn’t care for Nesmith’s songs very much; it seemed like he preferred the obtuse, “intelligent” route of his pal Frank Zappa.
To their credit, the Monkees themselves, did perform much of the music written for them, live.
