In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

2. temporary inactivity : suspension

"The remaining $5,000 of the fine is held in abeyance and will not have to be paid unless additional violations are committed by the Venice baseball program during the probationary period."
From an article by Dennis Maffezzoli in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Florida), January 23, 2012
"Abeyance" has something in common with "yawn." Today, "yawn" implies sleep or boredom, but years ago it could also signify longing or desire ("Full many men know I that yawn and gape after some fat and rich benefice"Thomas Hoccleve, 1420). The Old French word for "yawn" was "baer," which joined the prefix "a-" ("in a state or condition of") to form "abaer," a verb meaning "to expect" or "await." There followed Anglo-French "abeyance," which referred to a state of expectationspecifically, a person's expectation of inheriting a title or property. But when we adopted "abeyance" into English in the 16th century, we applied the expectation to the property itself: a property or title "in abeyance" is in temporary limbo, waiting to be claimed by a rightful heir or owner.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Filtering the intellectual minds here at the garage we came up with several possibilities:
Ebay ance....works except for the spelling. (Ships free!)
Obey ance....not much difference twixt an a and an o.
Like “Aff” and “On”.
Abmi ance....fiddle with the optional spelling and it’s ok.
A Be yonce...Being once is probably enough
Well there it is, folks. Take your pick and stay overnight in the neighboreing town of Abeyance, where everthing is being held for a spell.
A for originality.
I was looking at an old family photo album recently with my parents and recalled some fond memmories of my time as a child in northern California fishing on abeyance boat in the cold Pacific Ocean near Bodega Bay.

Good times. A for you and welcome to WFTD!
A+ for you! I have a teacher meeting this am so I have to delay the usual park run routine. I have a Jewish question for you. At my Bible study yesterday, the leader pronounced it To-RAH’ instead of the way I had always heard it before TOR’ah. Which is correct?
A lull in her tour schedule could be termed a Beyonce abeyance...
In English, it’s definitely TO-rah. I’ve heard the second syllable accented occasionally in Hebrew readings.
