In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
abeyance (uh-BAY-unss) noun
1. a lapse in succession during which there is no person in whom a title is vested
2. temporary inactivity : suspension
Our plans to go for a bike ride were in abeyance until the weather cleared up.
"The remaining $5,000 of the fine is held in abeyance and will not have to be paid unless additional violations are committed by the Venice baseball program during the probationary period."
From an article by Dennis Maffezzoli in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune (Florida), January 23, 2012
"Abeyance" has something in common with "yawn." Today, "yawn" implies sleep or boredom, but years ago it could also signify longing or desire ("Full many men know I that yawn and gape after some fat and rich benefice"Thomas Hoccleve, 1420). The Old French word for "yawn" was "baer," which joined the prefix "a-" ("in a state or condition of") to form "abaer," a verb meaning "to expect" or "await." There followed Anglo-French "abeyance," which referred to a state of expectationspecifically, a person's expectation of inheriting a title or property. But when we adopted "abeyance" into English in the 16th century, we applied the expectation to the property itself: a property or title "in abeyance" is in temporary limbo, waiting to be claimed by a rightful heir or owner.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

Actual New York Times headline:
“Beheadings Raise Doubts That Taliban Have Changed”
and the NYTimes is usually so dense.
It’s hard to write parody these days.
it doesn’t let me access it...is this a parody?
No. It’s real. That’s why it’s so hard to write parody, when the Times has descended into self-parody.
then the joke is that they don’t even realize what a joke they are. sad for them.
after having elected one no less.
classless bastards.....I got berated on another site, for pointing out trillion dollar deficits, as hating him bc of the color of his skin....I asked if he was green.
green? LOL he IS a green nut, just look at the loot he wasted on Solyndra
I just love that the dems are trying the race card....it got theO elected, but I do not believe it will get him reelected.
I like Dennis Miller’s response to that race bait. I have no problem with the color of his skin. It’s the thinness of it.
I was out in the car when Hannity, or was it Levin, played the interview with Andrew on that dinner with Ayers.....I sat in the car till it was over, then went into the store.
It makes me sad to lose someone with so much energy and potential.
