Rush Limbaugh Explains Apology As Advertiser Boycott Rises To 9
All Access ^ | 3/5/12 | All Access

Posted on 03/05/2012 11:51:28 AM PST by raccoonradio

The tally of advertisers who have pulled their spots from PREMIERE NETWORKS host RUSH LIMBAUGH's show over his comments about law student/activist SANDRA FLUKE last week (NET NEWS 3/2) now stands at nine, although it is presently unclear whether LIMBAUGH's weekend apology (NET NEWS 3/3) will result in any returning advertisers or whether the advertising suspensions are permanent or temporary.

The list of advertisers pulling spots from LIMBAUGH's show includes CALIFORNIA regional mattress chain SLEEP TRAIN and national advertisers QUICKEN LOANS, CITRIX (GOTOMYPC), SLEEP NUMBER, PROFLOWERS.COM, CARBONITE (which initially said it would hold off pulling its ads until its CEO spoke to LIMBAUGH), AOL, and LEGAL ZOOM. QUICKEN LOANS' sister CLEVELAND CAVALIERS have pulled spots from LIMBAUGH's show on CLEAR CHANNEL Talk WTAM-A/CLEVELAND, which happens to be the team's flagship station, according to WTAM, citing TALKING POINTS MEMO. Most recently, MICHAEL ROZBRUCH of TAX RESOLUTION SERVICES tweeted: "We have decided to join other advertisers and suspend our sponsorship of The RUSH LIMBAUGH Show."

Limbaugh Opens Show With Apology And Barbs At Obama, Left

At the outset of his show TODAY, LIMBAUGH joked about canceling his own company's "TWO IF BY TEA" commercials but being unable to get past a busy signal. "Give me 30 minutes here," he said, "and then you can do what you want."

Taking a shot at the left for what he described as saying and doing anything to make its point, LIMBAUGH said, "In fighting this issue last week, I became like them ... I descended to their level ... I became like them, and I feel very badly about that." He added, "I do not think that she is either of those two words ... the apology over the weekend was sincere ... I became like the people we oppose."

He then went on to criticize President OBAMA's "socialist agenda" and "extra-constitutionally" making moral judgments over what private insurance plans cover, and recounted his version of the timeline of the issue and Rep. DARRELL ISSA (R-CA)'s rejection of FLUKE's bid to testify before Congress. "All of this," LIMBAUGH said, "is political," adding that the examples of women denied coverage of contraception by GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY's health plan that FLUKE sought to testify about were anecdotal and "unprovable" hearsay, and that FLUKE, knowing that GEORGETOWN is a Jesuit Catholic school, went there to change the policy. He repeated his apology's assertion that the segments from last week were intended as satire and prompted by reports of FLUKE claiming that she could not afford birth control. "I acted too much like the leftists that despise me," he said. "It's wrong, and that's why I apologized. Don't be mad at them or mad at her, everybody was being true to their nature except me."

On the departed advertisers, he said he is "sorry to see them go," but noted that they had done well through their access to the LIMBAUGH audience. "It's a business decision and it's theirs to make. They've decided that they don't want you, and so be it." He said that he "knew the political inclinations" of the advertisers and that they didn't care, nor did he, as long as they were making money. He said that he rejects "millions" of dollars a year from potential advertisers, including, he claimed, GENERAL MOTORS. He said the show will "replace those who leave... who no longer want your business" and advised listeners to "make your own decision" on doing business with those advertisers. And he repeated the apology as well as his assertion that the left does not apologize for its own comments (including BILL MAHER's calling SARAH PALIN names) and that the right should not descend to the left's level.

Fluke Isn't Impressed With Apology

FLUKE, appearing on ABC-TV's "THE VIEW," said that the apology didn't change anything for her. "I don't think that a statement like this issued, saying that his choice of words was not the best, changes anything," she said, "and especially when that statement is issued when he's under significant pressure from his sponsors who have begun to pull their support."

One Activist Wants Clear Channel To Do More

Meanwhile, the same activist who issued a press release rejecting CLEAR CHANNEL's offers after Talk KFI-A/LOS ANGELES hosts JOHN AND KEN as not enough did the same regarding LIMBAUGH, issuing another pair of press releases reiterating her intention to complain to the FCC. JASMYNE CANNICK's JOHN AND KEN release contradicted the comments of other activists who had met with KFI officials, including PROJECT ISLAMIC HOPE leader NAJEE ALI, who told the LOS ANGELES TIMES, "Mission accomplished. We got everything we asked for."

These companies are bowing to leftwing pressure, its all about politics.

They have no compunction about advertising on David Letterman or Mtv I bet.

AOL for Free?Category: Cool-Stuff
“I read somewhere that AOL is going to stop charging for their Internet service and make AOL access free. Is that true, and if so, are there any gotchas I should now about?”

AOL Wants to Be FreeYes, it true... AOL access is now free. But I have clarify up front that “AOL access” does not mean “Internet access”. If you already have an Internet connection (dialup, cable, DSL, or fiber) then you can now access all of the services that AOL offers for free. So if you’ve been paying for AOL and recently have switched to a broadband connection at home, you can stop paying for your AOL account.

Really. Just go to Keyword: Change Plan on AOL and click the Free button. No strings attached, no “customer retention specialists” to talk with. Nothing to install or download. Anyone with a connection to the Internet can get a free AOL account. If you cancelled your AOL account in the last few years in favor of broadband, you can even get your AOL screen name back.

“Let Me Make This Perfectly Clear”
With all due respect to Richard M. Nixon, let me reiterate this important point. Free AOL is only for people with some OTHER means of accessing the Internet. If you have AOL and a high-speed connection through some other provider, you can “go free” and pay nothing for AOL. But if you need the dial-up connection from AOL, you can still save a chunk of change. Switch your plan from the standard $25.90 a month to the $9.95 a month plan, and you can continue as usual.

You do have to take some action, though. AOL won’t make the change to the Free or $9.95 plan for you. If you do nothing, AOL will be very happy to continue billing you for $25.90 a month forever.

What Does a Free AOL Account Offer?First and foremost, an AOL account offers free web-based email on AOL.COM. I prefer web-based email over traditional email software, because I can access my email from anywhere in the world, as long as I have an Internet connection. With a typical email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird, your email is tied to one computer. I love being able to access my email from a friend’s house, a hotel room, a cafe, or my car.

Here are some of the other services you can get with a free AOL account.

•Online Storage
Xdrive is like a personal hard drive on the Internet, accessible from ANY computer. You get 5 GB of free online storage, and software for Windows that makes it easy to just copy files to and from your Xdrive. Stash music, photos, videos, or whatever you like on your Xdrive. And don’t tell... you can use a different screen name and get another 5 Gb of storage. Xdrive is defunct, but here are some other places to look for Free Online Storage.

•AOLVideo.com

AOL’s answer to YouTube is billed as the best all-around video portal. In addition to user-created videos, you can search through millions of pieces of video, buy and download full-length movies from most major studios, or watch re-runs of classic TV shows.

•AOLRadio

Listen to your favorite music online, including XM Satellite Radio stations. Over 200 streaming internet radio stations, from Classical to Country, Hip-Hop to Alternative, Pop to Rock.

•AIM Phoneline

AIM Phoneline gives you incoming calls with voicemail, integrated with your AIM buddylist. Get your “AIM digits” to give out as a no-hassle phone number to marketers, people you meet at social functions, etc. It’s a free, local telephone number that comes with voicemail, delivered right to your email inbox. When you’re online, it lets you screen and answer calls, using your PC microphone and speakers.

•AIM Pro

Secure instant messaging and tight integration with Outlook contact management. Also gives extra collaborative functions for business users
that the regular AIM doesn’t provide. It’s worth a look if you IM at work.

•Security Tools

The AOL Safety and Security Center includes comprehensive anti-virus protection to protect computer and your e-mail. You also get spyware protection, as well as a firewall.

Granted, you can get many of these services elsewhere on the Web. But integration can be nice, and I applaud AOL for making the move to offer their services for free. It’s especially good news for the many AOL users that have been paying a premium price to access AOL, on top of paying for high-speed Internet service. To get your free AOL account, go to http://screenname.aol.com then click the “Get a Free Username” link.

I really knew deep down, I was wasting the money but no one could tell me so. When I heard they just dropped advertising on Rush I was on the phone in less then a minute.

I admit I am not perfect but this was perfect timing.

Now going to look deeper into all the other things I am wasting money on. Sometimes us old housewifes need a reason to delve in cause we are so busy...

TODAY IS MY DAY : )

“There are more of us than there are Kos Kids jerks.”

Perhaps, but the “Kos Kids Jerks” are ORGANIZED, take the time to make phone calls to media outlets, advertisers, and congressman, google bomb, and blog.

Many are in the media themselves.

Not knowing your enemy is just as bad as underestimating them.

Didn’t this Fluke creep get her fifteen minutes of attention yet?

If those of us on FR would stop posting about & commenting on her the story would die a quicker death.

I don't know exactly how advertising works with Clear Channel, but pulling their ads from the Limbaugh time slot doesn't mean they won't advertise AT OTHER TIMES, on other shows (of course, they lose the target audience, who has money to spend).

They can cut their own throats by losing the exposure to those who'll vote with their wallets by avoiding their products (Conservatives), but they are gaining the MATTRESS USERS like Sandra Fluke, I guess.....

Thanks to those folks that publish lists of those companies pulling their advertisements from Limbaugh's show.

Unfortunately, I have never used the goods or services of any of the listed companies thus cannot boycott them. Any suggestions as to how I can help?

RUSH should have known better. He should have triple-downed on his critique. He still would have lost his advertisers. He still would have been battered by the MSM. And he still wouldn’t have his apology accepted. But he would at least have his pride and convictions. Pathetic.

Rush admitted that his mistake was that he stooped to the level of the Left.

And he's right. He never does that. He is always the professional.

He slipped up, admitted it, and is moving on.

That's what adults are supposed to do when they make a mistake.

I just discontinued automatic renewal of my two Carbonite accounts and signed up with Google. Wish I could dump Quickbooks.

I like the cowards who “suspend” their advertising. If they really were so “offended” they would “Cancel”

What kind of "pride" can you have for using terms you feel are derogatory? He apologized simply because it was WRONG to use the words he did.

He should be VERY proud now that his convictions of right and wrong are upheld.

Do you mean he should have tripled down on degradation? That's how the LEFT acts, not us!

AOL - doesn’t feel Rush is fair. Their website has a video of some poor bride falling and losing her dress. Gee - who wouldn’t want to be sponsored by these guys who takes what will be a person’s most humiliating moment and puts it on the web while criticizing a person who made a comment about someone who willfully entered the public arena on a sham hearing.
