Santorum Another Trifecta in OK,TN, and ND. Ohio Too Close To Call {Should Gingrich Withdraw?]
March 06, 2012

Posted on 03/06/2012 7:21:08 PM PST by Steelfish

Gingrich must steps aside. His “southern strategy” is up in flames placing distant third and fourth in key states.

Working Women. This is a key demographic that Romney leads Santorum followed by a deficit of 11 points, and Gingrich is well way behind by 31 points and is one major reason why Gingrich can neither win the nomination nor the presidency.

Gingrich was the big spoiler in MI where Santorum lost by just three points. Besides the notion of “permanent moon-based colonies” and pie-in-the-sky $2.50 gas/gallon regardless of world energy markets or geopolitical conditions is simply risible and won’t play well with voters. Note, that Gingrich couldn’t even get the 50% threshold in home-state GA whereas Romney got a whopping 72% in MA.

If Santorum loses OH, we can attribute this to a divided conservative vote. The big city areas in OH have not yet been counted. Karl Rove thinks that when these county results come in, Romney will have won OH. He (unfortunately) may just be right.

Santorum has won IA; MN; CO; MO; and ND. Today, Santroum has notched up another trifecta: OK, TN, and ND. He came within a whisker of beating Romney in MI, and while he may lose OH it will be only by a coupe of points and Gingrich’s 15% would a major factor that explains this fact.

Absolutely.. Gingrich doesn’t have a prayer at this stage and even before he keeps splitting the conservative vote, and Romney dashes through the narrow breach. It occurred in MI, even AZ, and now in OH, a major bellweather state, Romney is now leading by1400 votes in OH. Romney owes Gingrich big time. The Fox Panel is unanimous. Gingrich has helped Romney.

We are officially seeing that in OH. If no Newt in MI and OH, Rick shuts Romney down cold. Instead we have the pro Milt jacka$$es spinning how wonder Milt is.

I find your reasoning to be sound.

Because Romney has no reason to quit. Don’t you see?

He’s winning right now because conservatives are divided. Same argument we’ve been having since day one.

Look, Newt’s had his home state. He won that and South Carolina. He’s done.

There is nothing left on the table that he will win. Nothing. Santorum proved that tonight, that he’s the only one who can beat Romney and we need to get behind him and support him.

I know it’s hard, I supported Cain, but Cain dropped. Now it’s time for Newt. He finished third to Romney in TN and third to Romney in OK. That is not the sign of a man who is going to win the Republican nomination of the presidency when you are finishing third in the most conservative states in the nation.

Now, if those 15 percent were supporting Santorum - do you think that Mitt would be talking about the nomination is his?

Face it folks. All of you Newt supports may have just thrown the nomination to Romney. All the things that you wanted most, and you, not anybody else, gave Mitt what he could not get otherwise.

We got one more out and that’s to have Rick sweep the upcoming states that he should win.

Sorry, but if Gingrich drops out, I have no acceptable choices left.

If this is not how the American Story is to end, then we are heading toward a national disaster of the most profound kind, a righting of course that won’t be electoral in nature.

I think some of the Santorum folks are overestimating his popularity among Newt supporters. I already voted for Gingrich in Ohio today, but if Gingrich had withdrawn, I would not have voted for Santorum. If he ends up being the nominee, he'd get my vote. Otherwise, he's my last choice.

Frankly, it makes no difference to me if it is Romney or Santorum. Both are repugnant to me.

All I want is an end to our nation’s disastrous century long experiment in statism, not more of the same. If we’re going to get more anyway, what’s the difference?

Obama, Romney, Santorum, they’re all sewn from the same cloth.

Um, Romney has attacked Rick just as much. For days, it has been non-stop attack ads here in OH, and Santroum is holding his own. Face it - as much as I like Newt -he is a very flawed canddiate and can’t win.

Either Mitt or Rick, both lose to Obama and the GOP implodes and loses the House and the Senate.. In December a new party will be created: the Conservative Republican Party.

Newt is the ONLY hope.
He has now to win all the South states.

The North doesn’t count as it’s democrat turf anyway. Massachusetts? Pffft. Vermont? Pfffft.

Indeed. He is mine, too. Conservatives shoot themselves in the feet, yet again. I'd vote for Crazy Ron Paul before I'd vote for Santo.

With Romney now pulling a slight lead in OH, don’t you think these numbers could have helped stop him? Your danged right they could have! Newt - buddy - you can’t win - do the right thing and bow out - or else we will be stuck with Obama lite this November.

Only one of these is opposed to Obamacare and publicly funded healthcare and that is Santorum.

If you sincerely believe that we must fight statism, then we have to get behind Santorum.

Krauthammer just said that Gingrich’s southern strategy is a no go. He said you can’t win national elections with regional wins only.

As you correctly point out, Gingrich is placing 3rd and 4th in neighboring southern states. So even his own southern strategy is in tatters. His 7% vote in MI was a killer for Santorum. Had Romney lost in MI, Santorum would have been on a roll with all the momentum and Romney would have been toast. Once again, Gingrich is playing the role of egomaniacal spoiler in the marquee contest of Super Tuesday!. He must quit NOW and he’s being kept afloat only by the dollars of his casino mogul benefactor.

You are right - Newt’s ego is getting in the way of common sense, or else he likes being on stage - just to hear his name once in a while. Whatever his reasons - he is killing the conservative vote and now I’m getting angry with him.

You can’t be even vaguely serious to think that Santorum is “cut from the same cloth” as Obama and Romney.

We can win with Santorum, he’s matched up against Romney and faught him to a draw in MI and OH.

We need to stop fighting him with one hand tied behind our backs. We can beat Mitt, but we have to make that hard decision now.

And, Newt has been a statist on occasion as well. SO, what’s your point?
