I would say that conservatives are based in reality before they are based in reason and logic. Sometimes tradition doesn't know exactly why things work, but it prefers what works nevertheless. The accumulated wisdom of generations of experience often trumps the reason and logic of the moment. I think on many issues liberals actually do use reason and logic, but it is not a fully informed reason and logic, hence the almost inevitable unforseen consequences and blowback effects when they apply it. The real difference in liberals and conservatives is humility -- that is, the acceptance that reality is often bigger than our reason and logic. Conservatism respects the unknown unknowns in a way that liberalism in its foolish arrogance does not.
