Whats with the long delay between mentioning brain damage vs alcohol as a factor? We’ll probably find out that he claimed some sort of brain damage/problem prior to redeployment, only to be shot down by higher ups.

Here's my guess. Awhile back, a female American cartoonist draw a picture of Mohammad for a magazine. She received many death threats. The Feds advised her to change her identity and go into hiding.

Perhaps the Feds are afraid that the soldier's family would likewise be threatened.
