but I remember driving through a patch of Georgia where some big carpet manufacturers were located. It stunk for MILES. Not sure if it was the companies or what.

More likely a paper mill. Were you on 75 between Atlanta and Chattanooga?

There used to be one near Alexandria, LA, as well, but I haven't smelled it my last few times through there. Don't know if it's closed, or if I'm just not hitting the wrong days.

I love the smell of papermills and lowcountry swamp land at low tide. Reminds me of summer vacations in my childhood. My family think I am nuts but those smells have happy memories associated with them for me.

This from president obama:

“Under my plan to get rid of the odor in DC, we will be providing a stimulus of $999 billion to research and solve the problem. Just think. For under a trillion dollars, we will clean the air and create at least a dozen jobs. We expect success to be achieved by the end of my second term.”

That’s New Ark, DE as opposed to Newrk, NJ.

The stink around mushroom houses is unforgetable. Think fertilizer soaked in damp rags and then heated.

Well, I dunno about the immediate DC area, but in Frederick County, Maryland, all the farmers have been fertilizing this past week. It stinks pretty good.

Did it smell like sulfur? That would make total sense. Unless Congress was on a break. ;o)

>> chemical plants in the Houston area... smell of money, jobs and low taxes

Ever been to Luling? Constant sulfur-methane smell from the “oil patch” — but again, it’s the smell of money (and energy independence too).

And as a bonus they’ve turned the pumpjacks into art!

Few people have seen past the smoke and mirrors to peg Obama and his politics for who he really is.His ideology and activity are fascist.

We need to get rid of him or we will suffer untold misery here and around the world.(Its already started, just take a look at whats left of Libya, not long ago , a prosperous nation and US ally, now reduced to ashes and rubble. People are starving, the old rule of sharia law is invoked, and its now an Islamic mess which can spread throughout Africa, just as Obama intended.)

Check with Harry Reid, it may well be a combo of warm weather and a higher than normal number of tourists in DC.

Yes, it was I-75 in GA. Not sure why paper mills stink. Trees don’t smell bad.
