Full title: Couple met and married within a month and stayed together for 65 years... only to be parted after home invader beat wife to death
An 85-year-old woman was sexually assaulted and battered to death by a home invader who also shot her 90-year-old husband in the face with a BB gun. Nancy and Bob Strait, who had celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in December, were discovered by their daughter at their home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Both the pensioners were rushed to hospital where Mrs Strait, who was nearly blind, died from her injuries.
Mr Strait, who served in the 101st Airborne Division in World War II, suffered a broken jaw, broken ribs and severe bleeding. He is in a serious condition in hospital. Police have arrested 20-year-old Tyrone Dale David Woodfork in connection with the case.
The home invaders made off with their Dodge Neon, a television and $200. Woodfork was later found hiding in a nearby house after a witness spotted the stolen vehicle being driven down the road.

I went to school with animals like this and learned at a very early age that certain segments of our society only understand violence. You simply can’t reason with them. Extreme, rapid violence is the only thing that reaches them.

Many years ago, I encountered an elderly widow who lived alone in a modest home. One morning her neighbor noticed that her back porch light was on past the time she usually turned it off and went to check. When he saw the back door ajar, he called her niece and the police.
They finally found the woman at the bottom of a closet, alive but badly beaten. A pile of bedding was thrown on top of her and a dresser pulled in front of the closet door so it could not be opened from inside.
She lived but with severe brain damage, could not speak, did not recognize her niece, etc.
This little old lady was perfectly harmless, just trying to live out the rest of her life in peace. She had nothing really worth stealing.
When you really grasp that there are people, to use the term loosely, who are capable of brutalizing the fragile and helpless such as the elderly and babies and young children, well, then, you don't put a lot of faith and trust in "human nature."
There will be no outrage. Only a couple of crackers got murdered. The perps should have been shot on sight, that is the only fitting justice they deserved. I don’t understand why there is no mention of the fact that Tyrone is actually a good boy who was turning his life around. He only fell in with the wrong crowd. The photo is really unflattering. I U.S. paper would find a graduation photo of him in cap and gown. Where is the U.S. coverage?

"Northeastern Oklahoma" is a nice place to live with the best of rural and urban life. Unfortunately the worst also.
Around here, most clear-thinking people have at least one gun in the house "just in case", especially veterans of Mr. Strait's generation. I don't know, I've only read the news reports, but I'm going to assume that either Mr. Strait had a weapon in the house but wasn't able to get to it, or it's possible that he had gotten frail enough that he wasn't able to use a weapon - he and his wife had been convinced by their family to move into an assisted living center.
The move was planned for the day after Mrs. Strait was murdered.
Oh yeah one other thing... the comments section at the Channel 6 website have been scrubbed... there were lots of uh, candid remarks about the uh, societal influences that produce this kind of stuff...

This is one of the most heartbreaking crimes I’ve seen in some time. These were very good people and Mr. Strait made the D-DAY landing with the 101st Division. To think that this punk and possible others murdered this lady is the lowest form of animal behavior. If not for men like Mr. Strait that punk would have probably been shot years ago. Let’s hope they get the others involved in this and hang all of them.
