After word spread rapidly Wednesday that the New York Jets had acquired quarterback Tim Tebow from Denver for draft picks, the teams have encountered a hang-up in the language in Tebow's contract that could nullify the trade, a Broncos source tells ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
Tebow has about $5 million worth of recapture language in his contract, meaning the Jets would have to pay back some money to Denver, and the Jets might be unwilling to do that.
The trade, then, is not finalized.

We’ll take him here in Dallas!
He hasta go somewhere!
Romo may be a choker, and his back up Orton generally unimpressive, but Tebow is even worse. No way do we want Tim Tebow. That would only make our mediocre Cowboys even worse.
People need to face it, Tim Tebow is really not a very good NFL caliber quarterback. He won't likely start anywhere next year, and in a few years he may not even be in the league.
How many playoff games did you guys win last year?
What a real QB looks like.
I also don’t think Tebow ever bobbled a hold for a crucial game winning kick.
None, because as I plainly said - Dallas is a mediocre team (and have been for a long while). What I don't want is to further downgrade the squad by picking up a quarterback who isn't even as good as Romo or Orton.
Tebow will not likely start anywhere in the league next year because he is simply not very good.
“Well take him here in Dallas!”
A long-time Irving resident.
Joe in a wheel chair and drunk could probably still outdo Tebow on the field.
He only got a team with an O-line like a row of toll booths into the playoffs. He was sacked more times than anyone in the NFL 1 for every 11 attempts.
It wasn’t because he wasn’t mobile. Orton was fired because Elway put him behind a squad of cheerleaders, then demanded he get them to the Superbowl.
He got that crew to the playoffs. Nothing less than a miracle. If you asked him, I’m quite sure Tim would admit as much.
Jets...not so fast... get it? Jets and fast... oh, never mind.
I am a Jet fan who does not want to inflict the horrific franchise upon Tim. Mark Sanchez is a pathetic pretender, who makes Tebow look like Bart Starr. Management stupidly gave him a new contract, when what he really needs is a 5th year at USC for remedial QB’ing. They will implode and it won’t be pretty. I do not want Tebow to have to deal with that mess and perhaps be blamed.
Or Sanchez for that matter, to whom the idiot Jets insanely just handed $40 million.
Orton was 1 - 4 with Denver...yeah, much better than Tebow. Romo is good at golf and dating blondes.
I TOTALLY agree! Tebow is NOTHING but media hype. He may just barely do enough on the field to keep it going, but he is not that good.
I’d keep Romo any day over picking up Tebow.
I can’t imagine why in the world the Jets would want him. They already have a good QB. By bringing in Tebow, they’ll just be inviting a media circus/quarterback controversy, and no team in their right mind ever wants that. My guess is, within 5 years(probably less) virtually everyone would have forgotten who Tebow is.
I was a 12 year old Johnny Unitas and Baltimore Colts fan in 1969. That was when the world tilted off its axis, when the upstart AFL Jets beat the mighty Colts.
But you are sure right. That is what a Jets QB looks like. He called the result, cocky SOB, and he called it right.
Tebow will almost certainly not start on any team in the league next year. Even in NY he will just be a backup to Sanchez. He may have a great personality, may be a nice guy, may even have terrific leadership qualities, but he does not have the skill set required to be a winning NFL quarterback over the long haul. There are good quarterbacks on bad teams and mediocre quarterbacks on good teams, but when it is absolutely obvious a QB does not have the fundamentals to have long term success, no team is going to want to invest much time and effort on him.
Denver was eager to get rid of him even during the win streak last year. Elway may not have been able to say as much, but pretty much everyone who analyzes the position knew it. I said last year Tebow wouldn’t last long in Denver, and sure enough he is already on the way out.
Look, lets be honest. Tebow is only popular here and on other conservative blogs because he is an outspoken Christian. Everyone knows it. I root for him as well, and I wish him success and hope he defies all the odds. Saying that, I certainly don’t want him, even as a backup, on my favorite NFL football team (and I’ve been a Cowboys fan all my life).
Now that is not to say I am particularly impressed with Romo - and I am no big fan of Orton. Romo has the skill set to be very good and a superbowl winner, but he makes stupid mistakes regularly (and in clutch situations) and makes it difficult for Garrett to really let him loose. Orton seems to be an okay backup and one that won’t become an unwarranted national celebrity because of things unrelated to football. I don’t want a guy as a backup who will immediately cause a QB controversy the minute he takes a few snaps for Romo simply because people like him personally.
And he looked good in pantyhose!
Yup. Almost certainly correct.
I said last year Tebow wouldn't even last long in Denver, and he is already on his way out the door.
theyll just be inviting a media circus/quarterback controversy
Yes, because so many people are supporting Tebow because they like his personal life decisions rather than whether he actually has the talent to be a franchise quarterback. The result will be endless quarterback controversies with many fans refusing to accept he simply isn't good enough to invest in for the long term.
Except Sanchez and Tebow have identical QB ratings after their first 2 years in the NFL. And Tebow rushed for almost a thousand yards more than Sanchez in those 2 years. BTW, do you know what kind of offense the Jets run?
Throw in Dawkins and we would welcome him like a king in philly....
Drunk and hanging all over women. And we are stuck with Brady. I long for the good ole days.
Tebow isn’t the best quarterback to be sure. But he is the best team captain in the game. No one can rally a team like he can.
Just because you don’t like him doesn’t make him a bad quarterback. Two National Championships and a Heisman tell me otherwise as well as leading the Broncos to the playoffs.
The Jets would use him in wildcat formations if that is what you are getting at.
QB rating alone simply doesn't tell the whole story. Mediocre quarterbacks can have good seasons, and quality quarterbacks can have bad seasons for any number of reasons. The ratings alone don't determine whether a franchise wants to invest a lot of time and money in someone.
Tebow has poor quarterback fundamentals. There is probably no way to fix this problem. Does that mean he can't excel in a perfect situation? Certainly not, it is possible. But the odds are against him and I wouldn't want my NFL team taking the risk. There are just too many reasons Tebow could end up being a giant distraction instead of a quality asset to an NFL team.
As someone else said in this thread, I'd bet Tebow is out of the league in less than 5 years. Possibly much less.
Send him to the Cleveland Browns; they could use ANYBODY!
I agree. I’m just tired of people trashing him. I might be a little biased though...
Actually I like him personally a lot. I cheer for him, I was excited to see him lead the Broncos over the Steelers in the playoff game last year. I hope I am wrong. "Like" has nothing to do with it. Tebow simply doesn't have the skill set to be a franchise quarterback, and as a backup he would be too much of a distraction.
Tebow also has better numbers than John Elway, another "not good enough skill set to play in the NFL" loser, apparently, after the same number of games. Yeah Tebow sucks. Just ask the bleacher bums. They know all about it.
I couldn’t believe they let B-Dawk go. Pissed me off.
Yeh, I recall what a running threat Joe was. He couldn't outrun a possum.
I’m a UGA fan, a gator-hater heh. But he’s a good guy.
We’ll see you guys at the Cocktail Party.
Lets keep in mind the media circus was not caused by Tebow. The press has done nothing but skewer him.
I loved, loved, LOVED! that man when I was in high school. One year I had but one item on my Christmas list.... “I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL TOMORROW” :)
That is why I am not a big Tebow fan. I want my QB to the throw the ball and make completions. Not run around.
I agree. Im just tired of people trashing him. I might be a little biased though...
Well you have to admit it seems a lot like how Blacks are. Must be perfect because they are black and you can’t give any criticism or you are against black people. I look at the way conservatives are with Christian Conservatives. They automatically are given a free pass because they are Christian instead of looking at the abilities. It is really a terrible road to go down. However, I can see you being tired of bashing just because he is Christian, but if they are trashing him because he stinks at football than that should be allowed.
I was referring to football. Of course they can criticize, just as I can stand up for him. I’m not saying they shouldn’t say anything, I’m just done being quiet in return. Only Tebow’s play can change their minds.
I’m sure you would have waived Joe Kapp as well. I mean the guy admittedly couldn’t even throw a spiral. Lots of experts said Joe couldn’t play in the NFL back then. Of course Joe just told them to screw off. Tebow will be more polite.
Denver just finalized the trade to the Jets. Tebow and 7th rounder for the Jets’ #4 and #6.
Namath was a fantastic athlete before his knee injuries.
Always cheer for a SEC team against those.. other so called
My son told me the Patriots want him.
