Santorum: Zimmerman ‘has a very sick mind,’ motive ‘a malicious one’

On Sunday’s “Face the Nation” on CBS, Republican presidential hopeful Rick Santorum explained that his view of the Trayvon Martin shooting differed significantly from the one held by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich was critical of President Barack Obama’s reaction, but Santorum placed the blame on accused shooter George Zimmerman’s mental state.

“Well, you know, obviously, I’m not privy to what’s going on in someone’s mind,” Santorum said. “Obviously, in my opinion, someone … has a very sick mind who would pursue someone like this. This is clearly a heinous act. You know, there are a lot of people who have a lot of distorted views of reality. It’s a tragic, tragic case. And my heart goes out to the parents, too. I can’t imagine what they’re suffering, losing their son in such a horrific way. All I would say is that, whatever the motive is, it was a malicious one, and a very, very tragic one.”

Santorum needs to learn that in certain situations the wisest thing you can say is nothing!

I'm late, I know this has been said numerous times and ways by now but I'm compelled. Santorum says "I'm not privy to what's going on in his (Zimmerman's) mind" and then proceeds to tell us what is going on Zimmerman's mind. He was "off (voluntary) duty" when he saw Trayvon. Zimmerman was also on his way either home or to an errand.

I don't have any issues with him having suspicion. In the tape of him speaking with police dispatch, there is a period of what seems 15-30 seconds where Trayvon is aware he is being watched, and his reaction (according to what Zimmerman says) is to stare at Zimmerman. All this while Zimmerman is sitting in his vehicle. Then Trayvon takes off at a run.

If that sort of thing was going on in my quiet neighborhood, I'd be suspicious too. Burglaries aren't quite as frequent here, but they do occur.

The Press plays Santorum like a violin and he responds like a hungry puppy, lapping up every question they throw in front of him. He has no clue that they are setting him up for making gaffes of saying things that they will use against him later. He has done this repeatedly, and keeps on doing it. It reminds me of Charlie Brown and Lucy, holding the football for Charlie to kick. Poor Charlie, falls for it every time, like this time, it will be different.
