Trayvon suspended over marijuana; thousands expected at rally
Miami Herald ^ | March 26, 2012 | Frances Robles

Miami Gardens teenager Trayvon Martin was suspended from school because he was caught with an empty plastic bag with traces of marijuana in it, the boy’s family attorney has confirmed.

Trayvon was killed while serving out the suspension in Sanford Florida, where his father’s girlfriend lives. A community watch volunteer who thought he looked drugged out and suspicious called police and later wound up in a fight with him.

The two scuffled and volunteer George Zimmerman shot Trayvon, killing him. He has not been charged.

Tens of thousands of people are expected to converge on Sanford on Monday for an afternoon rally to protest the killing, which occurred one month ago today.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, the Rev. Al Sharpton and comedian Sinbad are expected to speak at a 5 p.m. special City Commission meeting.

Several busloads of protesters left Miami early Monday to participate.

Trayvor Martin: Suspended from school for 10 days for drug possession according to his own parents. Attempted assault on bus driver 5 days prior to attacking Zimmerman according to his own brother. Attacked Zimmerman as he was returning to his vehicle, breaking his nose and repeatedly slamming his head into the ground as Zimmerman screamed for help according to witness.

Does appear this is what's coming out now...and none too soon.....How long before we hear the warning/threat of “riots occurring” were Zimmerman found not guilty?

Thank you very much for your post. Good job

If I were this kid, didn’t do anything wrong, and a guy was following me with a gun, I would certainly look for an opportunity to defend myself. Trayfon had to be concerned that he was going to be shot. I would.

The chain of events was set in motion by Zimmerman. He was told my the 911 operator not to follow the kid. Had he listened, the kid would be alive.

Question: If Martin had knocked out Zimmerman while breaking his nose, who would have been arrested?

Sometimes and I know this will be hard for some to believe, two people, BOTH exercising epically poor judgement collide and the results are deadly.

Not the makings of a race riot.

Just altogether stupid.

Just going to open your link a bit..... Trayvon Martin :

Burglary:

.....was suspended from school in October in an incident in which he was found in possession of women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that a schools security staffer described as a “burglary tool,”....

Trayvon, who claimed that an unnamed friend had given him the jewelry, was not disciplined because of the discovery, but was instead 'suspended for graffiti,' according to a Miami-Dade Schools 'Police report'.

According to the report, on Oct. 21 staffers monitoring a security camera at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High School spotted Trayvon and two other students writing “W.T.F.,” an acronym for “What the f---,” on a hallway locker, according to schools police..... The security employee, who knew Trayvon, confronted the teen and looked through his bag for the graffiti marker.

Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described the screwdriver as a burglary tool.

Trayvon was asked if the jewelry, which was mostly women’s rings and earrings, belonged to his family or a girlfriend.

“Martin replied it’s not mine. A friend gave it to me,” according to the report. Trayvon declined to name the friend.

School police impounded the jewelry and sent photos of the items to detectives at Miami-Dade police for further investigation.

Possession of Drugs:

That suspension was followed four months later by another one, in February,.... in which Trayvon was caught with an empty plastic bag with traces of marijuana in it, the boy’s family’s attorney has confirmed.

A schools police report obtained by The Miami Herald specifies two items:

a bag with marijuana residue and a “marijuana pipe.”.

The suspension was the third for the teen.

Tardiness and Truancy:

On Monday, the family also acknowledged Trayvon had earlier been suspended for tardiness and truancy.

I have been piecing together a timeline and the relevant locations for that night. I plan to put up a more detailed version, probably in a vanity and including sources later, but here is some food for though - and I’d be interested in any thoughts (or corrections) on this:

Zimmerman first saw Martin near the clubhouse, which is about a 3-4 minute walk from the house where Martin was staying. Zimmerman’s call lasted more than 4 minutes - more than enough time for Martin to have gotten home at a normal walk.

The shooting occurred no more than 3 and a half minutes after Zimmerman hung up the phone, and possibly as long as 7 minutes after he first saw Martin. In that time, Martin could have walked home twice, and run there three or four times.

Yet the shooting occurred 200-250 feet from where Zimmerman parked while on the phone with police - maybe a 45 second walk.

Obviously, we still do not know exactly what happened. Zimmerman may have committed a crime. Obviously, we know he left his car and walked some distance.

But when I try to come up with the simplest explanation for these times and locations it just doesn’t add up to Martin being “chased” for seven minutes, or even three, while trying to get home.

And that is what’s bothering me right now. How about you?

Eyewitness typically refers to a disinterested observer. Yes, Zimmerman was an "eyewitness" in the sense that the witnessed the start of the fight with his eye. But he's clearly not an independent eyewitness, as it is clearly in his interest to say that Martin started the fight (because if Zimmerman started the fight, it makes his self-defense claim a whole lot more difficult).

Yes, I've seen the articles that have the headline "Witness: Martin attacked Zimmerman." But the only statements from this witness in those articles have to do with what was going on during the fight (e.g., that Martin was on top of Zimmerman, and that Zimmerman was screaming for help). I've searched and searched, but have yet to see any statements from independent witnesses as to who started the fight.

I don't know who started the fight. Based on the limited circumstantial evidence that exists (or at least has been released), I don't think anyone does at this point. A lot of people around here seem to have come to the conclusion that Martin started the fight, and that Zimmerman's actions were 100% unquestionably justified. I just think that's a bit premature to reach that, or any other, conclusion.

Oh I don't think so....Zimmerman was carrying out what he does as a Watchman for the community as in the past. In doing so a suspicious fellow ,Martin, jumps him and beats his head into the sidewalk after he's called and reported of this encounter.

Zimmerman was doing his job for the community. And especially in line with the various robberies having taken place. So no..this wasn't bad judgment on his part....nor was that of shooting Martin after his cries went unheard.

Interesting that it's now reported Martin was caught stealing jewelry (robbery) in another incident. Which apparently ended up family and friends stuff.

His behavior is coming together slowly..but it is coming...Don't druggies rob from their families to support their habits?

What is very sad in this is such an injustice done against Zimmerman.....there's been no conviction but by mass hysteria brought on by obama, politicians and the cluster organizations looking for the limelight...have put this man and his family thru a living hell.

A man who was protecting his community and his life has been crucified by a nation....and a media that feeds it it's crap.

What a disgusting and unforgivable ordeal!

The known facts back up Zimmerman's account. It has been a month now and waiting for further evidence is doubtful to be forth coming other than to the backgrounds on the individuals.
