Word For The Day, Tuesday, March 27, 2012
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
1. Pathology a benign encysted tumor of the skin, especially on the scalp, containing sebaceous matter; a sebaceous cyst.
2. British a large overcrowded city (esp London in the phrase "the great wen" )
[Old English wenn; related to Danish dialect van, væne, Dutch wenn ]
OK, survey time:
When someone asks you a question starting with “Do you know...” are you tempted to answer “No, but hum a few bars and I’ll fake it”?
Or is that just something I picked up from my family?
My dad and grandparents used to say that all the time but it didn’t take with us. When I saw this WFTD, I thought of all the spam I get about WEN hair. I have no idea what it is; I just hit delete.
Well, next time you’ll have to look at the spam. Maybe it’s about big city hair. Or about sebaceous cysts.
just yinz weirdos ; )
Ick. To both possibilities.
The Obama Regime is a huge suppurating wen on the American Body Politic - if the Kenyan Marxist bastard is re-elected, that wen will burst with explosive force, covering us all in the putrid effluence of its diseased core.
That was ...descriptive.
I didn’t mean to be gross or to bring down the level of discourse in this thread - it was, IMO, an accurate assessment of the nature of the current Admin and the danger to our Freedoms posed by its continuance in office. If I have offended, I apologize.
Y’all buy a gun yet? Did you see where Ruger has suspended any more orders for a while because they have such a backlog?
I think my MIL used to say that sometimes. But she was more famous for the guy at the Shriner’s convention who said, “i can’t place the name, but the fez is familiar.”
“What’s that thing on your head?”
“On your scalp — that sore.”
“Whaddya mean ‘when’? Right now, there.”
“What’re you trying to be a smart@ss?!”
I’m more susceptible to responding “Which way did you come in?” when someone starts out with “Can you help me out?”
i thought it was great and i want to pour a bottle of peroxide on the whole mess!!
"I don't know."
no, but xshub found a friend who can advise him. he’s been immobilized by not really knowing how to go about it. the friend is a former liberal turned conservative, so that alone is pretty noteworthy. xsteen’s boyfriend took xsboy shooting the week before last, when he was home on break. he loved it.
A range that has rentals would be the best bet. Unless this friend has a good variety of guns for him to try out. If not the particular model, he can at least get a feel for the caliber and style he likes most.
I could get you some tickets for the next gun bash, and maybe you’ll win one!
xshub has been to a range and taken a safety course and tried out various guns, he’s still in need of guidance though. did you win one at your gun bash? i saw a few tweets while i was in Boston, did sarah win something?
My brother-in-law won and picked a 7mm rifle. Sarah won this giant “American flag and eagle head” blanket. It’s like 96 by 79 inches.
My wife won a .40 calber Glock a year ago at one.
If he’s already gone through all that, he should just buy something. He can always buy something else later. They’re like Lay’s. ;-)
Lol when someone says “can I ask you a question” I always say you just did, good day.
Call Emily Miller
I had a brother-in-law who was a jazz musician who used to say that. When something seems like a good plan, I say, “Solid!” Did you have musicians in your family?
New in freverse? Or the mere rumor of a tumor? No,no, I in cyst! Pathology, the study of a path?
Sorry. This wen is just not much to work with. It's like drinking light beer with ice in it, the longer you hang on to it the worse it gets.
Can I ask you a question?
You just did, and without asking first.
that’s ok, you go ahead.
Did you see the picture I tweeted this weekend? I was cleaning out the garage at my mom’s house and found an old newspaper.
It’s the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph from March 29, 1936. It’s a special photo edition chronicling the St. Patrick’s Day flooding. It’s pretty fragile, but you can still read it.
no, i missed that. that’s very cool.
Did you see the black friend of Zimmerman on Hannity last night? the entire situation in re this case is a travesty and makes me want to vomit. Zimmerman was not a racist. period. the death is lamentable, the jinned up race pimpery is heinous.
Found one of these, too. I was hoping it was worth something, but the only thing I can find on it is this one person selling one for $10.
Yeah, the friend was first on Fox yesterday morning. I thought I mentioned it yesterday. Very eloquent and intelligent man to have as a friend.
Who? What? Wen? Where? Why?
Don’t you mean “Wo? Wat? Were? Wen? Wy?”
We need to wean you from that stuff. I know you love the bubbles but it kills healthy tissue.
Do I dare hope? Early tweets seem to imply that Obamacare is in huge trouble.
Zimmerman a democrat......LMAO.
i talk about it way more than i actually use it, can’t remember when i last had it out.
saw them and yes its a good sign.
When might we expect a verdict? Do they normally announce by end of term in June or so?
My Sig will arrive in a few weeks.
Just seeing the tweet from Katrina vdh is enough to make me smile, tectonically! ROR!
Ooooh. What caliber?
