It’s all a muddled mess. I mean, Greeks and Italians can be just as dark complected as a “typical” Mexican, yet we don’t have a special category for them.

Then again, I saw at least one Mexican lady the last time I was there with freckles and red hair.

Hispanic is a linguistic thing more than anything else. Which makes me wonder whether Brazilians are considered Hispanic.

I have red hair, but no freckles-I’m one of several redheads in my family.

Most people consider Brazilians a Hispanic ethnic group-Phillipines, Portugal, Brazil-and don’t forget the South and Central American countries where the old native languages are still widely spoken.

I look at Hispanics as having a common ancestry from Spain-it is about the only common thing. And Spaniards from Spain were originally tribes of Gauls, Celts, etc who interbred with the invading Romans, hence getting latin blood, culture and language-so they are also a mixture of several ethnic groups, not a race-nearly all were Caucasian. Folks from the Pyrenees are ethnically Spanish and French both, depending on who claims the area at the time, etc.

With all the DNA and other evidence of tens of thousands of years of people sailing all over the globe to trade, breed and just wander around out of curiosity, it escapes me how people can still have such narrow, ignorant views of humanity.

I see lots of women in Latin America try to dye their hair red — but that doesn’t really work. It ends up looking maroon, like my car.

Right after 9-11, my brother and I also commented that a lot of of the middle-eastern terrorists looked just like Hispanics, and we were concerned about that-with good reason, it seems, if it is true that they are coming in illegally from Mexico now...

Either maroon or bright orange-you see a lot of that here, too-my favorite aunt has had orange hair for years, but I’ve seen old pictures of her with her hair its natural black.

I understand completely what you are saying, and it’s a good point. I am looking at this as a political designation, as in Latinos and Hispanics are an eagerly sought group of voters. The dems claim them as their own property, as a rule. Now the dems and their race pimps want to call him “white” so they can ignite a race war with whites....like that is going to help Obama get reelected. The news today that Zimmerman is indeed a democtrat is amusing me.

I was at the eye doctor for far too long today, listening to NPR radio (GAG ME) that was carrying on about Zimmerman like he was the devil incarnate. Now you just KNOW the liberals want to paint him as a white republican racist pig. I am just so thoroughly amused by it all.

The other thing that has torqued me today was seeing confirmation that the MSM has been showing us a picture of a 12yo Trayvon, when he was 17yo now. The real pic of him looks a bit more intimidating. Though being on the ground under him with my head being pounded into a concrete sidewalk would terrify me, or anyone.

The whole thing is ripe to go bad, and should be left to the Florida authorities.

I do think that the two people involved were in the wrong place at the wrong time and escalated things into fatality-not very smart, but terrible things do happen, and to turn it into a divisive issue by those race baiters is nothing short of evil. And I’m pretty sure Obama is going to regret stepping into that, like he does everything else-without thinking.

Everyone should just go home from Florida and let law enforcement and the courts there figure out what happened and act accordingly-send all the outside influences home-they are going to cause people to get hurt, and lots of lawsuits to be filed.

I’ve never had the experience of being a coveted vote by ‘rats, or on a plantation-my family has been here too long and are too openly conservative to be approached in spite of Hispanic ancestry and surnames-and I’ll be more than happy to keep it that way.
