I must say...I don't remember the ice man coming to our house. I remember him bringing ice to my grandmothers but that's it.

The house I grew up in was purchased by my parents when I was 3 and remember just a fridge like you posted. The freezer compartment didn't hold more than 2 ice trays and a little ice cream...lol. Mom shopped for meat daily.

However, I do remember the milkman who actually brought the milk in and placed it in the fridge. It was never left on the porch.

TGIF! happy Friday & Happy weekend to my friends here at Amy’s place. Saw movie The Raven today. Pretty good flick. About Edgar Allan poe & set in Baltimore (although shot in Hungary & Serbia)

pets all doing okay & I survived the winter w/o central heat. God was good & gave us a mild winter!

Must drag in my 3 huge tropicals off the deck as we are having a hard freeze the next 3 nights & then back to mild weather

Health & $$$ issues still struggles but God is Good & I thank him for what I DO HAVE rather than dwell on the deficiencies along the way!

I loved this old refrigerator. Do you know when Frank and I were dating and it was the first time I had been in his house, they had a refrigerator like that? I could be wrong but it seems to me that it was a brownish color. And once, I got to see the ice man bring in the ice with those big tongs. I had never seen one as by then my mom and dad had a more modern but old refrigerator. It was a great experience.

They had a very nice house with a big front porch and he and I would sit in the swing! Oh, the good ole’ simple days of young love. Where in the world did all that time go so fast? Thanks for bringing that good memory back to me.

Hi Dolly, Your story could be mine. I try to be thankful even with the painful stumbling blocks along the way. I’m sure others are in worse shape. Spring and Summer are better times, except for the work that I’m unable to now do. We had a very warm winter also and are going through a chilly spell now but nothing we can’t stand!!

Absolutely! I have a lot of W and some of the both of them and love posting them! No one could love our military more than that man did and still does! He shed tears for them and was unashamed of his tears. Thats my kind of man!! Not like that silly thing we have now with that silly grin and smile that makes his people swoon. Makes me stick my tongue out at him. He can fool some people but not all people! He’s just a big bragging, egotistical human being. I could use more brash words but won’t! LOL!

Self-Destructive Hatred
April 28, 2012

George Washington Carver (1864–1943) overcame terrible racial prejudice to establish himself as a renowned American educator. Spurning the temptation to give in to bitterness for the way he was treated, Carver wisely wrote, “Hate within will eventually destroy the hater.”

In the book of Esther, we see how self-destructive hatred can be. Mordecai, a Jew, refused to bow down before Haman—a self-important dignitary in the Persian court. This angered Haman, who manipulated information to make Mordecai and his people appear as threats to the empire (3:8-9). When his scheming was complete, Haman called on the Persian king to kill all the Jews. The king proclaimed an edict to that effect, but before it could be carried out, Esther intervened and Haman’s devious plot was revealed (7:1-6). Enraged, the king had Haman executed on gallows the schemer had built for Mordecai (7:7-10).

Carver’s words and Haman’s actions remind us that hatred is self-destructive. The biblical response is to turn hatred around and return good for evil. “Repay no one evil for evil,” Paul said (Rom. 12:17). When offended, “do not avenge yourselves” (v.19). Instead, do what is right (v.17) that you may live “peaceably with all men” (v.18).

Harboring hatred in the heart
Will not lead to success;
But following truth and love and grace
Will lead to blessedness. —Hess

Hatred promotes self-destruction;
love fulfills Christ’s instruction.

It’s cold and rainy here.

Even the greenhouses are chilly today, since there is not a hint of sunshine.

Puppies, every time I see them, I want to get one.

We are not sure we could handle more than the 2 dogs we have now. They are so good together. A third one might turn the peace into chaos.
