“RGIII is better in the pocket.”
that’s utterly ridiculous....
wilbon is a tool, through and through. Racist as well.
He’s a hater, a jerk, and a maroon.
All smokescreens. That happens a lot with the number 1. I remember when Bill Parcells said he thought you needed to build with defense, then he took Jake Long number 1.
RGIII is one of the best players I have ever seen. He is big, can run with power and throw with precision. Baylor doesn’t get on TV much.
As an old Redskin fan, I’d take either one, though leaning toward Griffin. But will RG3 require more of a change in the Colts’ offensive scheme? No matter which, the Colts o-line has got to be ecstatic about lining up and not have to worry about two or three audibles on every play.
Won’t matter with the Skins though, as long as Snyder is in charge, never mind the Super Bowl, the PLAYOFFS will forever be just a distant, fond memory.
The first time I heard of him I thought he was the grandson of the former senator from Michigan...I don’t think that’s the case.
The last time that the Redskins had an actual franchise QB was Joe Theismann. I was only two when he broke his leg.
Can’t go wrong with either Griffin or Luck. Both are franchise QBs. Quite looking forward to watching them play.
Man. I remember seeing that break on his leg. Was watching the game. So terrible.
Ouch! 2? I still get sympathy pains shooting through my shin bone whenever I think about that play. But leading up to that, it was frustrating to watch Theismann play. He was constantly missing receivers on short passes and was getting his fair share of boos.
As far as other QBs since, though Rypien put up some awesome stats, he was fortunate enough to have one of the best offensive lines ever to play. The proof behind that is that he was one of the least mobile QBs yet he was only sacked a handful of times and led the league in passing. But after that, when the line started breaking down, he didn’t stand a chance.
A friend of mine thought Rypien was a lock for the Hall of Fame but I argued that Stan Humphries, who held the clipboard at the time, was a better quality QB. He laughed. That is, until the Redskins dealt Humphries to San Diego and Humphries turned around and took the Chargers to the Super Bowl without the benefit of the Hogs.
Also, Doug Williams did have a beautiful arm... well, for a season at least. :-) But, you’re right, neither Rypien, Humphries nor Williams would have been considered franchise QBs.
Boy, I would take Andrew Luck over RGIII any day. Luck can be a QB in the mold of a Peyton Manning or Dan Marino. I’m afraid RGIII will follow in the footsteps of Michael Vick or Colt McCoy.
I dunno. I'm not so sure its as clear cut as all that.
Luck will be a fine QB, but he does have some flaws. He doesn't have the strongest arm in the world, and when he throws deep his passes tend to float a bit.
I think Luck is more NFL ready right now, but the question is, who will be better in 5 years? Griffin really intrigues me, because he has a cannon for an arm, is very mobile, and is a solid guy. I've seen a couple of interviews with him, and he seems like a hell of a good kid, very personable, very intelligent, and very coachable. For those reasons, any comparisons with Vick are way off base.
Maybe the Colts are blowing smoke, but why would they? They have the first pick, they don't have to try to fool anybody...
Could he be a Matt Leinart redux?
Oh, God no! I did't mean to suggest he's that bad...
But the things I’m hearing about Luck are reminiscent of what they said about Leinart when he was coming out.
I think Matt Barkley is going to be the real deal, though. He’s probably going to walk away with the Heisman this year.
I agree with you about Barkley, though. He should go very high, if not #1, and he'll be really good.
I’m already pencilling in SEC Champion vs USC for the BCS Title Game.
