DESTREHAN, La. (CBS Houston) A 24-year-old is dead today after horseplay reenacting WrestleMania got out of control.
Stephen A. Arceneaux III, of 9614 Red Church Lane in Destrehan, was pronounced dead at St. Charles Parish Hospital at 10:39 p.m.
St. Charles Parish Sheriff Greg Champagne told the Times-Picayune that Arceneaux joined friends in front of a television on Murray Hill Drive to watch the World Wrestling Entertainments Wrestlemania 28. Thats when his 14-year-old cousin allegedly wrestled him on an inflated mattress.
The juvenile, who is 5-foot-6, put his cousin in a rear-naked choke hold, commonly used to force opponents to quit matches or lose consciousness. From behind, the juvenile placed the forearm of one arm around his cousins neck while pushing on the back of his cousins head with his other arm, cutting off air supply while he hanged from his cousins back.

Hold muh beer.......
I am very sorry for the dead man, and terribly sorry for the 14 year old who will have to bear this burdensome memory the rest of his life.
That particular hold (a personal favorite) is NOT to be trifled with; here’s yet more evidence of that.
Really sad.
What ever happened to “Don’t try this at home”?
“.....a rear-naked choke hold.......”???
It’s also known as the Sleeper hold.
I talked an ex-cop buddy of mine (against his better judgment) into doing that hold on me while we were waiting for a law school class to start. Here to tell ya, it’s a nearly instantaneous effect.
And it’s not air supply that does the work, it’s the blocking off of the carotid arteries.
Do not try WRESTLING MOVES at home -- leave it to 'THE ROCK', John Cena, SHAMUS, CM PUNK or any other WWE ENTERTAINERS!!
Sad. RIP.
Yah... Those guys actually have extensive training on how to do all those “stunts” without -killing- people. Many of the things they do in the ring, if done for real and with full intent, would be fatal.
I believe the proper term is “lateral vascular neck restraint”, but ask the LAPD about the specifics. It’s cost them millions of dollars in wrongful death settlements.
“Many of the things they do in the ring, if done for real and with full intent, would be fatal.”
I hate it when I am walking down the street, minding my own business and someone comes flying off the top turnbuckle, lays me out then jackhammers me.
Like 3 times this week. And I didn’t even have a hoodie on.
Ooops....
Meant pile drives. Gotta have muh terminology correct.
In the form of Jiu Jitsu I train in, we train to do a variation of that Hadaka Jimi. When I was a lower grade, a third dan put it on me and I could feel the power to snap my neck like a twig radiate from his arms. On another occasion, I lost consciousness for a few seconds.
When you put it on someone else and take their balance backwards, you know you’ve got them, which in some sense feels kind of cool.
But yeah, it is extremely dangerous. People shouldn’t even be allowed to see it done unless they have demonstrated commitment by training in a relevant martial art for a few years. This poor kid didn’t even realise the potential consequences of using it without proper training and supervision. I don’t think they should be showing things like this on TV and sites like youtube should pull videos showing it like they do when people put porn videos up there.
There's just no other way to solve this series problem. It's obviously hugh.
If they were reenacting pro wrestling, the term would be a sleeper hold. In BJJ/MMA the move is called a rear naked choke, commonly abbreviated RNC.
If only they had been watching the DVD “Knot Tying with David Carridine” this would have never happened.
