The bottom line for most employers is the bottom line.
If pregnant women and women taking maternity leave were beneficial to a company’s profits, then we would see employers falling all over one another to get more pregnant women on the workforce :)

I know where you are coming from. As a women who has never had children and who has become disgruntled when fellow employees are always taking time off for child care issues, I don't know what is right.

I do think in an UP economy where full employment was happening and profits being made, this issue would go away, but in tough times you cut back where you can.
