SIMMONS: Bill Cosby weighs in on Trayvon Martin case

“The gun.”

Those two simple words flowed easily from the mouth of social commentator Bill Cosby during an exclusive interview Friday regarding the Trayvon Martin case, arguably the most high-profile, citizen-on-citizen U.S. slaying facing the Obama administration.

Trayvon was killed Feb. 26 in Sanford, Fla., by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who told police that a “confrontation” with the unarmed 17-year-old led him to shoot in self-defense.

Mr. Cosby, a Navy veteran, said “the gun” empowered Mr. Zimmerman, whose actions have stirred a firestorm of debate, protests and remarks from President Obama.

“We’ve got to get the gun out of the hands of people who are supposed to be on neighborhood watch,” said Mr. Cosby, whose remarks were the first he has made publicly about the case.

“Without a gun, I don’t see Mr. Zimmerman approaching Trayvon by himself,” Mr. Cosby explained. “The power-of-the-gun mentality had him unafraid to confront someone. Even police call for backup in similar situations.

“When you carry a gun, you mean to harm somebody, kill somebody,” he said.

It seems to me that if not for his gun it very possibly could have been Zimmerman who would have been killed.. Why do so many insist on weighing in on this without knowing the facts?

While the Zimmerman/Martin ‘white’ on black killing is covered 24/7 on the MSM with an outpouring of rage and charges of a racial hate crime, where is the concern- where is the rage about the home invasion, torture, beating, rape and murder of the elderly white couple by a gang of feral blacks in Oklahoma just a few weeks ago?

The 90 year old war veteran husband was beaten and his jaw broken. He was shot in the face numerous times with a BB gun and sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The 85 year old partially blind wife was RAPED and then BEATEN TO DEATH.

Can you just imagine the pain, the humiliation, the horror that dear old lady experienced being gang raped by that pack of feral animals?

(the autopsy states she was raped. Don’t think all of these animals didn’t all participate)

And can you imagine the pain, the horror of that dear old husband having to witness this?

There’s a lot more involved here than a home invasion and robbery.

WHERE ARE THE CHARGES OF A RACIAL HATE CRIME??

Why does it take a foreign press to enlighten America as to this henious crime?

disarming the public is the solution!

Well, these interlopers--and the Left--need to understand one thing: if they attempt to disarm us, we will kill them. It is as simple as that.

That is what our Founders did when the British regulars attempted to disarm their community on April 19, 1775, and while I draw a breath, my miserable life will be spent to emulate their courage. I will never be up to their level, but I will not surrender to disarmament, either.

If I remember correctly, Cosby’s son was killed by a car jacker who came to this country from Russia (I believe).

After the murder, Cosby’s wife made the comment about the killer, “America taught him to hate.”

That was the original rationale for gun control laws in America. Keep guns out of the hands of blacks so they wouldn't have the confidence to "confront" white people. Especially white people with hoods on.

Uh...Nope, Bill. When I carry, it’s because I believe there may be some situation that requires me to defend my family, my property, my own life, or the life or safety of someone else. Even when I WAS a cop, I never carried ANY weapon with the intention of hurting or killing someone else.
The same goes for my friends and acquaintances who choose to carry.

I'm sorry folks, but I must agree with Bill Cosby on this. Zimmerman did not need to be carrying a gun.

If people could always be in teams of two, maybe such things wouldn’t happen. Zimmerman did call for backup but was attacked before the cops could arrive - something Cosby doesn’t seem to realize. If Z had stayed in his vehicle he might have been safe but he might not have been able to tell the cops exactly where he was either.

Pretty sad, though, if the best the people calling for Zimmerman dead or alive can offer is that Zimmerman would have been safe if he always had somebody else with him. It’s sort of like saying that an old lady walking out alone at night is asking to be raped because the black gangstas just can’t help themselves, any more than feral animals can help themselves...

The argument that an unarmed person wouldn’t have the bravado to confront somebody else is interesting in light of the fact that Trayvon was unarmed and still attacked Zimmerman. If it wasn’t a gun that gave him the bravado then what was it? Drugs? If so, then it probably didn’t matter what Zimmerman did, because he was attacked by somebody stoned who was gonna do whatever he was gonna do anyway.
