An LENR workshop, the 10^th International Workshop on Anomalies in Hydrogen Loaded Metals, is slated to begin tomorrow, April 10^th, in Siena, Italy. The conference’s schedule and participants are listed at the bottom of this article, and include Francesco Celani, Dr. Peter Hagelstein of MIT and Prof. Francesco Piantelli. Nichenergy, the company founded to market Prof. Piantelli’s device, is one of the sponsors of the conference. He is scheduled to give a presentation on the last day of the conference, Saturday, April 14^th.

The workshops goals are stated thusly:

“High temperature gas loading is a promising technology to reliably create thermal and nuclear anomalies. The purpose of the workshop is to bring together an international group of experts to present their results and encourage discussion. The emphasis is on experimental innovation, methods, instrumentation, diagnostics and theory. In addition there will be afternoon discussions on topics of interest including explanations for the anomalies.”

Since the purpose of the conference is to “present their results and encourage discussion, it is hoped that after nearly a year of silence, the father of nickel-hydrogen “cold fusion,” Prof. Piantelli, will finally publicly announce the results and progress of his ongoing work. Last time anything was publicly announced regarding Pianteill’s research was July of 2011, when Pianteilli associate Roy Virgilio gave the following summation of Piantelli’s work:

• Experiments are being performed in a lab near Siena, Italy (near the site of the upcoming conference).

• Older units worked continuously for months and produced 2 to 4 times energy gain, but the actual energy balance was higher, as the cells reached self-sustaining mode.

• Several unnamed third parties have confirmed that the older units worked in self-sustaining mode for long periods of time.

• Several of these older units were recently reactivated. After some maintenance they turned on easily and produced 2 to 3 times energy gain but they haven’t yet been pushed to high excess energy levels.

• New units with new fuel should be completed in about two months, and are expected to produce 200 times energy gain.

• The new units will be tested gradually in several steps of increasing power, beginning from a few hundred watts up to high levels of power on the order of kilowatts.

• The scale-up will take as long as is necessary. Smaller devices will be ready for sale first.

• No catalyst is necessary. The trick is in the preparation of the nickel.

• Piantelli has a theory that doesn’t require exotic reactions, but can be explained using known physics and mathematics. A semi-complete theory has been provided to the University of Siena and will be published shortly. The complete theory will probably be disclosed after the first commercial units have been sold.

• No Italian public institutions are involved in the current research, but a US government agency that has had the opportunity to review the research will probably validate and certify the reactor, as well as contribute to its development.

• Piantelli’s group is also in talks with several large industrial corporations to develop generators operating at certain power levels.

• The research is protected by three pending patents, the latest of which was filed last week.

• Piantelli’s group will create a supporters’ trust. In two to four months the public will be able to buy shares in the trust to support the research, to prevent the technology from suddenly disappearing, and to share in any future revenues. Piantelli’s group doesn’t need money: the aim is protect the technology by putting it under the control of a multitude of stakeholders.

It is hoped that after nearly a year of additional work, the cells are indeed now able to produce 200 times (or more) energy input as the above report indicates was the goal. Admittedly, it has been rather frustrating for us observers to have no progress updates on Prof. Piantelli’s work for this length of time. However, we need to remember that Piantelli is not Rossi, in that he does not have Rossi’s seeming need for attention or run a blog where he makes regular comments. It should also be noted that Piantelli currently holds several EU LENR patents and has applied for several more. It is felt by some that Rossi’s e-Cat and Rossi’s Hyperion may in fact infringe of some of Pianteill’s existing patents and that there will be a legal battle at some point between the parties.

Besides the presentation of Piantelli, I can imagine the presentations of Hagelstein and Celani will be of great interest as well. Dr. Y.E. Kim, who gave a presentation on March 23 at NETS will give a presentation at the conference regarding his theoretical cold fusion framework. Long-time Japanese researcher Dr. Akira Kitamura will give a presentation as well.

If one reviews the lists of participants below, there is actually quite a long list of scientists giving presentations. While I am unfamiliar with many of the names, I do note a sizable contingent from Russia and an additional presenter from Piantelli’s company, Nichenergy, a Dr. Valerio Ciampoli.

Unfortunately, it does not appear that this conference will be streamed or televised. If any of our Italian friends are able to attend the conference, please feel free to post any first hand accounting of the proceedings here…and if not here, SOMEWHERE! Thank you.

What Happened to Dr. Miley?

I cannot count on any number of appendages the amount of times I have been asked this question over the last 2 weeks. As many of you are aware, Dr. Miley was scheduled to give a lecture on March 23, the 23^rd anniversary of the announcement of Drs. Pons and Fleishmann, at the New Emerging Technologies for Space conference in the The Woodlands, TX. The lack of any coverage of this event has left many puzzled and bewildered. Based on the abstract released before the conference, his lecture was to be entitled “A Game-Changing Power Source Based on Low Energy Nuclear Reactions.” This was shaping up to be another significant LENR disclosure, coming on the heals of the presentation at CERN by researchers Yogendra Srivastava and Francesco Celani, where Celani matter of factly announced “The Fleishmann effect confirmed.”

So, with the stage set for a cold fusion 1-2 punch, what happened? Pretty much nothing. The organizers of NETS apparently felt it not of importance to publicize to Dr. Miley’s presentation. It should be pointed out that a major sponsor of the NETS conference was…NASA! Again, NASA finds itself squarely in the middle of this story. Dr. Miley was obviously invited to the conference and its organizers obviously knew the nature of his presentation…yet strangely elected not to utter a word about it. If it were not for the appearance of Dr. Miley’s abstract on the Internet prior to the conference, few would have known about his pending presentation. It is a little odd that the day after CERN allowed an LENR presentation to be broadcast live across the world over the Internet, the organizers of the best little space conference in Texas found it unimportant.

I am left to wonder if the inappropriately critical report that appeared about Dr. Miley on New Energy Times 3 days before his scheduled presentation had anything to do with NETS organizers choosing not to broadcast Dr. Miley’s lecture. Perhaps they did not want the negative publicity that the New Energy Times report may have generated, either real or imagined. The report was odd in that took an accusatory tone towards Dr. Miley’s previous statements regarding his recent work, most specifically comments he made in October of 2011 at the World Green Symposium in Philadelphia. The report was also odd because it appeared 3 days before Dr. Miley’s scheduled March 23 presentation, even though the interview the report was based on took place back in December. The timing was curious to say the least.

One might argue that a conference about emerging technologies in space should not be affected by the utterings of a self-appointed LENR “journalist” and “expert” with degrees in neither journalism or science, but such arguments would come from a place of naivete’. With the exception of CERN, Missouri University and some notable others, apparently major companies, institutions and news outlets still do not want to have their names associated with anything even remotely related to “cold fusion,” even after 2 decades of experimental affirmation of the technology. This is not just a general observation, this impression comes from conversations I have had with persons “in the know” over the last year or so.

But, rest assured, Dr. Miley did give his presentation. Cold Fusion Now’s Ruby Carat was in attendance at NETS and will do a write-up about it sometime in the near future. She was able to get an interview with Dr. Miley when she was there. As I am sure many of you do, I look forward to her article and whatever information she is able to provide about the proceedings.

I also exchanged e-mails with Dr. Miley the week prior to his presentation regarding an unrelated matter. He gave me no indication that the presentation would not take place. He also indicated to me that there would be further news about his research efforts in the coming months, although I am not at liberty to disclose any details about said news at the present time. There are still some particulars that still need to be worked out.

I also need to point out here that Dr. Miley is still in need of funding. Everything he (and most cold fusion researchers for that matter) have accomplished to this point has been on a shoestring budget. Dr. Miley is being as thorough with these experiments as one would expect from a scientist of his pedigree and experience. However, this work is being held back due to lack of funds. If anyone is interested in funding Dr. Miley’s research, please contact him at the e-mail address provided in his abstract. However, DO NOT BOTHER HIM IF YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS! Apparently his e-mail address at the university is stuffed full of spam and inquiries from the merely curious. As a result, serious inquiries are not being received and are being filtered out. Sidney Kimmel just provided Missouri University with 5.5 million to fund “cold fusion” research and I am absolutely positive that this kind of contribution would be a great boon to Dr. Miley’s research. So all you corporate lurkers out there need to cease with the voyeurism already and help the man out.

From all accounts, the research at Missouri University to this point has been very primitive compared to what Dr. Miley is reporting. As he said in October, there are no “show stoppers” in the form of technical barriers to the progress of his work. Right now issues revolve around funding and additional engineering. However, I must caution, that this does not mean his work is commercially ready today, right now. As the saying goes, “when the journey is 90% complete, one is halfway there.” In another words, the last steps in any process can provide formidable challenges. However, those challenges cannot be met in a timely and prudent fashion without the proper resources.

If any serious party out there is interested in helping Dr. Miley and you are not able to contact him at the university address, please e-mail me at the address below. He has provided me with a second address as a back-up. However, I will not provide that to anybody or anyone who is not serious. The man has work to do.

PLAN X: Three Scenarios

OK! There are a lot of very intelligent people out there who find the idea of active conspiracies, whose aim is to control and “own” LENR energy generation – delay its rollout until such time as they have devised an implemented a plan for control, and assure a military advantage for their side – as “Paranoid!” It’s too late to stop it. They would never do that to us! My response is “Bah, Humbug!”

Consider these three possible realities.

1. YOU know about the advent of the LENR age, because of the many successful efforts to replicate the phenomenon, the many recent patents applied for in the field, and the side show now being presented to us by Defkalion and Andrea Rossi. But THEY do NOT know about it – the president or his highest level staff, the ultra rich, the most highly placed military, CEOs etc. at the largest energy, financial and related industries.

2. They DO know about LENR breakthroughs, but will let nature and capitalism run it’s course for the good of humanity. After all, they stand to make even more money because they have the capital to take advantage of the opportunities the fledgling industry presents.

3. They DO know about the LENR breakthroughs, and are making every effort to control and eventually own the entire LENR industry for their own good and long term security.

First, I do not like debates with the “missing middle,” so I actively invite anyone to add to this little list. I could, of course, create a good bit more of a continuum between the three. You know, like between one and two, something like “They’ve heard of this crap but don’t believe it for a heartbeat”, or between two and three “They can’t control Rossi and Defkalion, but they’ll get their people going on this ASAP, and try to catch up and own at least a part of it”. But, I think the list does accurately define a continuum of possible states regarding the current knowledge and intent of the Military/Financial Complex, which for all intents and purposes runs the world.

It seems faintly possible that scenario one is in play. Mid-level sycophants might be very reluctant to stick their neck out too far in convincing those above them that this whole crazy impending transformation of society is in fact REAL. It IS possible that the rigidity of the hierarchy will provide the seeds of its own eventual extinction. I’m afraid that I might be guilty of overestimating the intelligence of at least some of the MFC (Military/Financial Complex). I cannot imagine being in their position and NOT having specialists watching for exactly the kind of scenarios which now presents itself. But, considering the absolute doltishness of various empires in their later stages, who knows? Would Nero have listened? What about King George III and the American Revolution? How about Hitler or Stalin? So, I guess this end of the spectrum might possibly be how it will go, much to my delight (“delight” is much too weak a word! Something like “giddy, orgasmic ecstasy” might be better, but, it IS a figure of speech!)

My belief is that the reality is somewhere much closer to scenario three. I just cannot imagine anyone at the top of the MFC passively watching this all evolve because, at some point, it will have developed to the point that it IS past their control. Maybe that is already the case, but I don’t think so. If I were in their position, I would, beyond any shadow of a doubt, be up to my elbows in trying to get a handle on the whole ball of nickel. How could they not? They should! It would be beyond any defense if they were simply “ambushed” by all this. If the military lost the opportunity to develop and secure an advantage as huge as this they would be rounded up, lined up and strung up in short order. The electorate would never forgive elected officials for not having this power source, largely developed and verified at NASA and SPAWAR, used as a club for American hegemony. Don’t you think?

Question is, what do the few hundred thousand of us, who ARE aware of the vast potential of this for the future of the human race, do in the face of such powerful, secretive and ruthless authority? The spectrum of possibilities is actually sitting close to the scenario three end, in my opinion, and the only recourse is PLAN X! Publish, Disseminate, Translate and Finance. For once the REST of us are in a position to compete in the meme-space and for the awareness of PlanetMind. Keep spreading the word, and wait for the chance to actually take part in a world-wide, people financed and controlled effort to let LENR knowledge and technology truly enter the public domain.

Consider a fourth - that much of what is being sold about LENR is snake oil and that is why it isn't getting much traction.

I'm willing to entertain the possibilities, but they have to be presented in something remotely resembling normal verifiable science and engineering. So far I have not been seeing that minimal standard met.

Hope you guys have been watching what happened to GSA with respect to it's Western Region conference.

They awarded stuff more magnificent than t-shirts and ribbons ~ collection of gold and silver coins for example ~ and now they have become the agency for the Congress and MSM to trash for the next ten years.

Folks like the guys at NASA who run conferences will probably start by eliminating the doughnuts and chips, and certainly no tea service!

Those ribbons? Cherish them. There'll never be ribbons in the future ~ for anyone.

Is Prof. Francesco Piantelli’s device a Nickel-hydrogen electrolysis cell like the P&F device or is it more along the lines of Rossi’s device? They say that they have ‘cells’ that have run for long periods but I don’t understand if that means it’s a P&F type cell or is something missed in translation?

It’s interesting that he says he doesn’t need a catalyst in that it’s all in the preparation of the Nickel.

I’m can’t wait to see the results while we’re waiting on Rossi and Defkalion. Wasn’t Defkalion supposed to have had a big announcement already or did I miss it?

This is a nickel-hydrogen gas loaded cell, therefore not electolytic. That puts it in the same technology area as Piantelli, Rossi, and Defkalion.

Indeed that "is" interesting.....I missed that detail.

As I understand it, the Defkalion reviewers will report when they have all reduced and compared their data. I "think" I have seen somewhere that the projected time frame for that is later this month. As to Rossi......who knows.....even "he" probably doesn't.

It would be nice to see working devices (and write-ups) for long periods with proper calorimetry done or at least decent measurements taken from the proper places.

It would also be cool to see the top COP as well as the lowest which the article mentions some are running at 2 but expect to run at a much higher COP after some optimization.

Rossi and Defkalion might find that they’ve been left behind if they don’t produce. In fact, didn’t Rossi ‘borrow’ Piantelli’s work? I hesitated to mention Rossi but he is the elephant in the room.

Nope. We'll just have to execise patience.

There are a number of efforts that have reached the COP > 2. Brilluoin (sp?) is one.

I think they will be left behind in any event. I think using 100% (or close to) nickel will turn out to be very limiting. I think the Arata/Miley/others composite fuel (zirconium oxide/nickel or zirconium oxide/Pd) will prove to be superior, allowing higher run temperatures and cheaper fuel "elements" (especially in the case of PD).

In the sense that he (and Focardi) worked in the "gas-loaded nickel/hydrogen) area, yes. But he did introduce the idea of using nano-sized particles in place of Piantelli's nickel rods.

And both Rossi and Defkalion need to look over their shoulders.....there are other "elephants" coming up fast.
