Sources: Bobby Petrino out as coach (1915hrs CST News Conference)

Bobby Petrino will not return as head football coach at Arkansas, multiples sources have told ESPN.com's Chris Low.

The university has called an 8:15 p.m. ET press conference at which time athletic director Jeff Long will announce Petrino will not be back.

The 51-year-old Petrino was put on paid leave last week after he didn't tell his boss right away that a 25-year-old female football program employee was riding with him during an April 1 motorcycle crash. Petrino, who is married with four children, also admitted to an inappropriate relationship.

Also on Monday, a person familiar with the investigation confirmed to The Associated Press that Petrino's "previous inappropriate relationship" was with Jessica Dorrell, the former Arkansas volleyball player with whom Petrino was riding with during his motorcycle crash on a rural two-lane road southeast of Fayetteville.

Petrino was noticeably vague in the wording about the relationship in his statement last Thursday, and the person spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Long said in a late-night news conference Thursday that he didn't hear about the 25-year-old Dorrell until Petrino called him that afternoon, minutes before a police report was released that disclosed her presence at the accident.

Dorrell, who did not return a call seeking comment, was hired March 28 by Petrino as the student-athlete development coordinator after serving as a fundraiser with the Razorback Foundation. She is in charge of organizing the recruiting process for the football team, including initial eligibility for each incoming player.

>>>Maybe I’m missing something here. Are foosball coaches not allowed to be normal human beings? Does everybody lose their job if they have an affair?

No, I think this more likely has to do with the 159 potential lawsuits from applicants for the job that Bobby Petrino offered to his mistress.

This person had no reason to lie to me. Nevertheless it’s a mess. Arky did the right thing although I’m surprised to did it.

According to ESPN it was a possibility thrown at Bobby and he didn’t bite. So yeah, it could have been true.

It has to do with lying to everyone including coaches, players, family and friends. He was having an affair for a pretty long time and then hired her as someone who would have constant contact with him on a daily basis. Plus, his girlfriend’s fiancé also coached Olymphics at U of A down the hall from them both.

Then to top it off he said that he couldn’t be fired because he was bigger than Razorback football per ESPN new conference.

Maybe I’m missing something here.

Yeah, they're called facts. You don't lie and mislead your employer. Usually that's worse than the crime. It ultimately led to his termination.

Q: Was Petrino acting as though he was bigger than the program? Long: Yes, that is what I was trying to convey.

He might not have lied but he doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Jeff Long didn’t offer and Petrino didn’t want any compromise, period. Petrino said he was bigger than the program this morning and didn’t think he could be fired.

I think that you are probably right. It is all over the place that Petrino said that he is sooooo pissed.

Mrs. Petrino “helped” Bobby pick out the helmet? Where did you get that info?

If that’s true it means this little ride happened on the “sperm” of the moment, as Archie Bunker would say. He says “Hey, babe, wanta’ go for a ride on my crotch rocket?”

“I don’t have a helmet.”

“You can wear mine. It doesn’t fit me anyway. I doubt there’s a helmet in Arkansas big enough for my head.”

Petrino is pissed because he told Jeff Long this morning he couldn’t be fired because he was bigger than the program.

As I understand it Paul Petrino is under contract. Just ‘cause his brother got fired doesn’t mean he will be. Thought he probably will be next spring but he will get his paycheck. And I doubt his big brother gave him a contract that said “If I screw up, you’re going with me”.

My guess is that with a new coach, a new staff. He might as well start looking for a n new job.

I wish Garrick McGhee had stayed a while longer. Of course, he “knew” Petrino would be there as long as he wanted so if he wanted a head coaching position he’d better take what was offered. And I hope he has more dignity than Petrino. So, if Arkansas goes after him I’d respect him if he lives up to his commitment and turns it down. If they offer to hire him and he accepts he’ll be doing the same thing Petrino did at his previous two jobs.

Isn’t Arkansas State’s coach considered a pretty hot property, or has he already moved on?

I guess that would be a big jump tho.
